Director, Product Management, Databases, Spanner

Our goal in Cloud Databases is to develop an exceptional databases offering to help give customers industry leading capabilities in data management.

Spanner is an always-on database with virtually unlimited scale and strong consistency guarantees. It’s a single database that unifies relational, graph, key-value, and search. As the database technology that powers most of the services on Google and GCP, Spanner is one of the most innovative and critical services for supporting high scale, business-critical workloads. The primary mission of our team is to enable businesses to deliver highly scalable, secure, performant, and reliable solutions without needing to handle any of the heavy-lifting associated with managing large scale distributed databases.

As the Director of Product Management for Spanner, you will scale the Product Management organization and its leadership team to best support the fast growing databases business. You will be responsible for establishing customer-centric product strategy for Spanner, building thought leadership in this market segment, and driving go-to-market strategy and execution. You will execute across numerous proprietary and open source technologies to solve the most demanding problems for our customers.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $281000 - $392000 (USD) + 30% bonus target + equity + benefits

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15 years of experience in product management leadership providing product vision and roadmaps, creating customer-facing products, leading packaging, positioning, messaging, and pricing, and driving go-to-market execution.
  • Experience in the enterprise market segment, and experience addressing their business needs with AI-driven solutions.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • Experience with enterprise databases (e.g., relational and non-relational), large-scale distributed data systems, and infrastructure.
  • Experience with strategic thought leadership with the ability to drive business excellence and operational/product aptitude while simplifying existing go-to-market models.
  • Experience as an organizational leader with the ability to identify priorities and deliver successfully within accelerated timelines, with strong communication skills.
  • Knowledge of application development, analytics, and AI/ML in relation to operational databases.
  • Strong technical skills and the ability to code at a prototyping or experimental level.
