In this position...
Ford Motor Company is seeking a highly skilled and adaptable Wireless Connectivity Validation & Test Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be the gatekeeper of software quality for our in-vehicle Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technologies. You will be responsible for end-to-end bug triaging, regression testing, and test case definition. Additionally, you will play a critical role in advancing our Apple CarPlay and Android Auto implementations, driving development efforts, and ensuring our systems meet rigorous industry standards (WFA, BTSIG, and Apple MFi).
The ideal candidate possesses deep technical expertise in wireless protocols, hands-on experience with official certification/compliance procedures, and the agility to support adjacent engineering domains (such as USB, charging, or power delivery) when called upon.
What you'll do...
Core Wi-Fi & BT Testing: Reproduce, triage, and track all incoming Wi-Fi and Bluetooth defects. Validate that bug fixes successfully resolve the original problem reports and do not introduce regressions.
Test Case & Procedure Design: Perform routine regression testing and proactively define new, robust test procedures and automation scripts to continuously improve software quality.
Log & Trace Analysis: Capture and analyze over-the-air (OTA) Wi-Fi air traces and Host Controller Interface (HCI) Bluetooth logs using Wireshark to perform deep-dive root-cause analysis.
Certification & Compliance Support: Work closely with teams performing Wi-Fi Alliance (WFA) and Bluetooth SIG (BTSIG) certifications. Investigate and resolve root causes for any certification failures.
CarPlay & Android Auto Integration: Support activities related to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth integration for Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto. Lead efforts in MFi (Made for iPhone) qualification, including iAP and iAP Auto protocol verification.
Requirements & Development Support: Assist with requirements analysis and capture. Drive Wi-Fi and Bluetooth development efforts by managing change verification, reproducing bugs, and collecting critical logs for issues raised by external/cross-functional team members.
Cross-Domain Adaptability: Demonstrate flexibility and a collaborative mindset by stepping in to support adjacent engineering domains (e.g., USB, Power Delivery, Qi wireless charging, or physical layer testing) outside of core connectivity whenever extra help is needed.
You'll have...
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
3+ years of experience in wireless connectivity testing, validation, or systems engineering (specifically focused on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth).
Deep technical expertise in IEEE 802.11 standards (Wi-Fi 5/6) and Bluetooth protocols.
Even better, you may have...
In-Vehicle Projection & Apple Ecosystem: Direct experience with MFi Qualification (Apple CarPlay Wired and Wireless, iAP, iAP Auto, MFi Auto) and Android Auto certification procedures.
Compliance Lab Experience: Proven track record working with or within external test laboratories (such as GRL) or standard bodies for technology compliance.
Advanced Diagnostics: Strong, hands-on knowledge of Wireshark and other network/protocol analysis tools for capturing and analyzing wireless air traces and HCI logs.
Software/Scripting: Proficiency in writing test automation scripts (e.g., Python, Bash, C/C++, or Shell) to automate functional, performance, and stress testing.
Adjacent Domain Knowledge: Experience validating related technologies such as USB (2/3/4), Thunderbolt, Power Delivery, or Qi wireless charging.
Collaboration & Adaptability: Proven ability to work closely with cross-functional teams, manage external stakeholder issues, and adapt quickly to support other engineering domains when needed.
You may not check every box, or your experience may look a little different from what we've outlined, but if you think you can bring value to Ford Motor Company, we encourage you to apply!
