Job Description and Responsibilities
 

Join Rocky Mountain Steel Mills as our Director of Sales, Rod & Bar, where you will lead the strategic direction and commercial performance of our Rod & Bar Products Division across the United States. In this key leadership role, you will be responsible for driving sales growth, managing market competitiveness, and developing pricing strategies that maximize profitability. Leading a small sales team, you will oversee customer relationships, inventory aging, and accounts receivable performance while collaborating with internal stakeholders to ensure operational excellence and long-term business success.
 

  • Oversee sales and marketing activities for Rod & Bar products across all facilities, providing daily supervision of inside sales, setting and evaluating performance goals for National Sales Managers, and partnering with leadership on sales initiatives, continuous improvement, S&OP, and the development of business procedures
  • Partner with Senior Management to develop strategic marketing plans for each facility, conducting competitive and pricing analyses, defining ideal customer profiles, targeting growth opportunities, and optimizing the existing order book
  • Develop, strengthen, and maintain customer relationships while creating effective marketing materials and customer communications to support engagement and growth
  • Manage financial planning and performance by developing budgets and forecasts, communicating risks and opportunities to leadership, assessing SKU and customer‑level profitability, and leading Monthly Operating and Margin Reviews focused on volume optimization, margins, inventory aging, and A/R aging
  • Drive commercial execution by pursuing and managing RFQs, establishing pricing strategy, policies, and discounts, negotiating with customers and suppliers, securing Purchase Orders, coordinating with regional partners, and optimizing the order book in collaboration with Operations and Management
  • Lead Rod & Bar sales projects and compliance activities by managing contracts, leading production and customer meetings, monitoring and collecting A/R to ensure cash flow, maintaining trade case documentation, and partnering with legal, finance, logistics, credit, and business services teams

 

Requirements 

  • Minimum 10 years experience supervising a sales team is required
  • Minimum 10 years sales experience in heavy manufacturing, metals and heavy industrial.
  • Must be able to travel 35-50%
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, finance or economics is required. An MBA is strongly preferred
  • Must be familiar with Manufacturing Cost Statements
  • Commercial sales experience is required
  • Experience managing profitability, working within a budget and developing and adhering to a forecast required 
  • Ability to identify challenges and opportunities, brainstorm and analyze options, and implement the best solutions
  • Ability to understand how a business works, make sound decisions based on financial and market realities, and align actions with the organization’s strategic goals
  • Ability to anticipate future trends and develop long-term plans that create sustainable competitive advantages and allow the business to make more money
  • ·Builds strong-identity teams that apply their diverse skills and perspectives to achieve common goals
  • Prioritizes understanding and meeting customer needs to enhance satisfaction, loyalty, and long-term business success

Salary Range:

$170,000 - $185,000
