Application Scientist – Nanoport
The Role
The Thermo Fisher Nanoport team operates the world’s largest Electron Microscopy demonstration laboratories. Nanoport supports the sales of Thermo Fisher’s Electron Microscopy and Spectroscopy portfolio through customer demonstrations, application evaluations, and technical consultations. The team also serves as a collaborative hub where Thermo Fisher Application Scientists and customers work together using state-of-the-art NanoPort instrumentation.
By providing scientific and technical expertise, the NanoPort team plays a key role in supporting Thermo Fisher Scientific’s global commercial organization and driving customer success.
This is a field-based position involving customer demonstrations, application support, and on-site engagement. As a trusted technical advisor, you will support customers both on-site and remotely through virtual platforms, telephone, and email. By delivering exceptional application expertise and customer support, you will help drive customer satisfaction, strengthen long-term relationships, and contribute to the continued growth and success of the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct product demonstrations, application evaluations, and sample analyses at customer sites and NanoPort facilities.
- Generate high-quality application data and results to support marketing and commercial activities.
- Deliver on-site and remote scientific application support and customer training for Thermo Fisher’s SEM and DualBeam (FIB-SEM) product portfolio.
- Troubleshoot and resolve instrument performance issues, technical challenges, and customer inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
- Partner closely with sales teams to provide technical expertise and application support during customer engagements and sales activities.
- Support customer evaluations and proof-of-concept projects by developing and executing application workflows.
- Maintain current technical expertise and deep scientific knowledge of Thermo Fisher’s Electron Microscopy portfolio, with particular emphasis on SEM and DualBeam technologies.
- Stay informed of emerging scientific trends, competitive technologies, and developments in microscopy and materials characterization.
How Will You Get Here?
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Applied Physics, Nanotechnology, Engineering, or a related scientific discipline with 4+ years of hands-on SEM/DualBeam experience; OR
- Master’s degree in a related field with 2+ years of relevant experience; OR
- Ph.D. in Materials Science, Physics, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical and scientific concepts effectively through both written and verbal presentations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong technical knowledge of Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and DualBeam (FIB-SEM) technologies.
- Hands-on experience operating Thermo Scientific electron microscopy platforms, such as Scios, Helios DualBeam, Helios Hydra Plasma FIB, or equivalent systems.
- Customer-facing experience with the ability to understand customer needs and build trusted relationships.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with users of varying technical backgrounds and expertise levels.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a dynamic environment.
- Willingness to travel up to 20% as required.
- Professional proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
