Job Description

As part of the Thermo Fisher Scientific team, you'll discover meaningful work that makes a positive impact on a global scale. Join our colleagues in bringing our Mission to life every single day to enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer. We provide our global teams with the resources needed to achieve individual career goals while helping to take science a step beyond by developing solutions for some of the world's toughest challenges, like protecting the environment, making sure our food is safe or helping find cures for cancer.

DESCRIPTION

Join our collaborative Antibody Development team at Thermo Fisher Scientific, where you'll contribute to advancing protein and antibody engineering technologies. As a Scientist II in Protein Biology, you'll be part of our team focused on designing, developing, and validating high-quality antibodies using advanced tools and methodologies. You'll contribute to research that enables our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer.

In this role, you'll plan and execute experiments independently, driving product development from concept through validation. You'll utilize advanced protein characterization techniques while collaborating across teams to optimize workflows and improve product quality. The position offers opportunities to support junior scientists, present research findings, and contribute to scientific innovation in a supportive environment dedicated to excellence.

REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • MSc or PhD in Proteomics, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Structural Biology, Immunology, Protein Science, or a related life sciences discipline. Candidates with an MSc or PhD may be considered without prior industry experience.
  • Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific field with a minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in proteomics, mass spectrometry, protein characterization, or related analytical sciences.

Technical Expertise:

  • Strong theoretical and practical expertise in LC-MS/MS-based proteomics, including large-scale identification, quantification, and characterization of proteins and post-translational modifications from complex biological matrices.
  • Hands-on experience operating, troubleshooting, and optimizing high-resolution mass spectrometry platforms (e.g., Waters LC MS/MS, Q-TOF, Triple Quadrupole) coupled with nanoLC, UHPLC, or HPLC systems.
  • Experience with proteomics workflows including sample preparation, protein extraction, digestion, peptide cleanup, fractionation, and quantitative proteomics approaches (label-free, TMT, SILAC, DIA, PRM/SRM).
  • Proficiency in protein purification and characterization using chromatographic techniques such as affinity chromatography, ion exchange chromatography, size exclusion chromatography (SEC), HPLC, and FPLC.
  • Experience with protein characterization methods including SDS-PAGE, Western blotting, ELISA, capillary electrophoresis, and protein-protein interaction assays.
  • Knowledge of biophysical characterization techniques such as Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR), Bio-Layer Interferometry (BLI), Differential Scanning Fluorimetry (DSF), or related methods is desirable.

Data Analysis and Bioinformatics:

  • Proficiency in proteomics data processing and interpretation using industry-standard software platforms (e.g., Proteome Discoverer, MaxQuant, Skyline, DIA-NN, Spectronaut, PEAKS, Scaffold, or equivalent).
  • Strong understanding of protein databases, bioinformatics tools, statistical analysis, and biological pathway interpretation.
  • Experience with data visualization and reporting tools including GraphPad Prism, Microsoft Office Suite, and statistical software packages.
  • Demonstrated ability to design experiments, analyze complex datasets, troubleshoot technical challenges, and draw scientifically sound conclusions.

Molecular and Protein Sciences:

  • Experience with antibody discovery, characterization, engineering, or display technologies is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with structural biology tools and molecular visualization software (e.g., PyMOL, Schrödinger, Chimera) is desirable.
  • Knowledge of protein conjugation chemistry, bioconjugation strategies, and antibody modification techniques is considered a plus.

Professional Skills:

  • Excellent scientific documentation, technical writing, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate complex data to multidisciplinary audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet timelines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while contributing effectively within cross-functional teams.
  • Experience mentoring junior scientists, technicians, or students is desirable.
