Global Commodity Senior Buyer

In this role, and under direct supervision of the Senior Global Commodity Manager, the Global Commodity Manager will be primarily responsible for the negotiation of new electronic components in close cooperation with development. For assigned projects, the GCM will be responsible to support in analysing and negotiating the BOM cost of electronic products in alignment with the commodity management. The GCM will be fully responsible for monitoring the market finding new manufacturers and select together with development the right strategies. To leverage BorgWarner’s collective purchasing power and maximize synergistic opportunities to optimize supplier performance, reduced total supply costs while meeting our technology expectations throughout the supply chain.

Key Accountabilities:

General Purchasing

  • Global Responsibility for the finding and establishment of new suppliers for electronic components
  • Lead the development Centers for Electronics in China and Asia to select the right suppliers and components for their design
  • Lead global corporate purchasing activities
  • Support the plants in China and Singapore to include in upcoming VAVE activities the best selection of electronic manufacturers and components
  • Negotiate complex and or critical supplier agreements in line with existing strategies
  • Resolve and disposition wide range of difficult and complex problems
  • Identify and mitigate supply chain risks
  • Participate in purchasing related internal meetings, including presentations to senior management
  • Maintain complex spreadsheets containing supply base data

Direct Production Material Purchasing

  • Manage existing unique supply with single source semiconductor manufacturers.
  • Negotiate necessary changes within existing supply contracts for price and/or terms.
  • Responsible to establish new semiconductor manufacturers as necessary to supply unique development requirements for new designs.
  • Lead the alignment with the global supplier strategy for all designs developed in Asia

Process and Procedure Maintenance

  • Maintain proper compliance to corporate purchasing practices
  • Trouble shoot purchasing system issues
  • Work in a team with the other electronic purchasers of BorgWarner toward consistency, alignment, communication and adoption of best practices
  • Create, maintain, and publish regular metrics to communicate overall team performance
  • Conduct continuous improvement efforts, coordinate cost reduction efforts for all assigned electronic designs

Travel

  • Up to 40%, both in China and intercontinental

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related discipline or equivalent experience preferred
  • 8+ years purchasing or Technical Sales experience in the electronic industry
  • Experience in automotive and /or EMS industry is an advantage
  • Good Understanding of needs for electronic designs
  • Negotiation Experience
  • Professional interpersonal verbal and written communication required
  • Must have highly developed organizational skills including the ability to prioritize, handle multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines
  • Proficient with Microsoft office products — Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
