Overview
The Master Electrician performs electrical expertise in the management, maintenance, and delivery of electricity and the installation and repair of all types of electrical
equipment in city facilities and other areas of the City.
Essential Functions
1 Designs, oversees, provides electrical expertise, and manages the installation and maintenance of all electrical service needed to provide for user safety and convenience; plans, calculates, and follows electrical loads from blueprints, drawings, or wiring diagrams to connect with electrical circuits and safely install electrical service.
2 Plans, manages, schedules, and assigns crews' duties based on priorities to meet the workload and ensure the
work is completed efficiently; monitors scheduling to ensure all work orders and maintenance or repair requests are addressed; participates in personnel management, conflicts, timekeeping, and performance quality.
3 Monitors and inspects the work performed by subordinates in installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical
equipment to ensure compliance with the Electrical Code, city ordinances, OSHA regulations, and related standards; identifies issues or non-compliant work, addresses problem to ensure safety, and conducts training where needed.
4 Plans, designs, and executes an electrical preventive maintenance program and employs energy conversation
measures to help prevent breakdowns of electrical equipment; conducts and attends construction meetings to ensure appropriate electrical standards are followed.
5 Estimates and plans labor, material, and power that will be needed to remodel, repair, and upgrade of electrical systems; ensures each project has the appropriate staff and crew to complete work and monitors equipment inventory, supplies, and materials; gathers quotes and collaborates with contractors and other vendors.
6 Locates underground lines for paving contractors and utility and private companies to ensure no damage is
done to underground signal lines and performs special services such as line location, relay testing, and motor
surge testing.
7 Appears and testifies in court as an expert witness on behalf of the City of Dallas; provides electrical expertise and knowledge for various cases involving electrical systems or infrastructure.
8 Performs any and all other trades work as needed or assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
1 Knowledge of and ability to install, repair, and maintain large high voltage equipment, motors, switchgear.
2 Knowledge of electrical codes and regulations.
3 Ability to supervise, lead, and provide technical expertise to other electricians.
4 Making accurate estimates of time, materials, and labor required for installing equipment or making repairs
5 Ability to read various complex schematic diagrams and blueprints.
6 Ability to use and instruct in various types of hand tools, power tools, precision testing and/or troubleshooting
equipment.
7 Ability to understand technical terminology of the specialization assigned.
8 Customer service and conflict resolution.
9 Communicating effectively both orally and in writing.
10 Establishing and maintaining strong and effective relationships.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EXPERIENCE:
• Six (6) years of experience in electrical work
AND
• Two (2) years in a lead worker/supervisory capacity. (This experience may be included in the required experience listed above.)
LICENSE(S) and/or CERTIFICATION(S):
• City of Dallas, State of Texas or reciprocal Master Electrician License
• Valid Driver’s License and good driving record
• Some positions require valid Class B (or higher) Commercial Driver’s License
OTHER REQUIREMENT(S):
- For Water Positions: High voltage electrical experience required.
- Must have own transportation and is subject to inclement weather and twenty-four (24) hour emergency call-out.
- For Trinity Watershed Management: High voltage (up to 4160) electrical experience required. Must have own transportation and is subject to inclement weather and twenty-four (24) hour emergency call-out.
Salary Range
The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
