Job Description Summary
The Buildings and Grounds employee is responsible for maintaining the plant’s buildings, grounds, and support facilities to ensure a safe, clean, and functional environment. This position supports daily operations by performing general facility maintenance, groundskeeping, and minor repairs while adhering to Tyson policies, safety requirements, and regulatory standards in a fresh food manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain plant buildings, offices, restrooms, break areas, and common spaces in safe and operable condition
Perform routine building maintenance, including minor carpentry, painting, plumbing, and basic electrical repairs
Maintain plant grounds, including mowing, trimming, debris removal, and snow/ice management as needed
Inspect buildings and grounds regularly to identify maintenance needs, safety hazards, or repair requirements
Perform basic HVAC support tasks such as filter changes and reporting system issues
Assist with facility-related work orders and document completed tasks as required
Coordinate with Maintenance, Safety, and Sanitation teams to ensure compliance with plant standards
Set up and tear down equipment, furniture, or barricades for meetings, projects, or plant needs
Maintain tools, equipment, and storage areas in a clean and organized manner
Support emergency repairs or facility issues as needed
Follow all OSHA regulations, USDA requirements, and Tyson safety and facility policies
Use proper PPE and safe work practices at all times
Perform other duties as assigned
Fresh Plant Environment Expectations
Maintain facilities that support raw and fresh product operations
Ensure work does not compromise food safety or sanitation standards
Work in indoor and outdoor environments with varying temperatures and weather conditions
Follow biosecurity, sanitation, and hygiene requirements
Education and Experience Requirements
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent preferred
Experience:
Prior buildings, grounds, facilities, or general maintenance experience preferred
Experience in industrial or manufacturing environments preferred
Skills and Competencies
General knowledge of building systems and grounds maintenance
Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and basic maintenance equipment safely
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Good organizational and time-management skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Strong commitment to safety and cleanliness
Physical Demands and Work Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and perform manual tasks
Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials as required
Ability to lift up to 50-75 pounds with or without assistance
Ability to work outdoors in heat, cold, rain, or other weather conditions
Ability to work around equipment, vehicles, and active plant operations
Work Schedule
Must be available to work assigned shifts
Overtime, weekends, and holidays may be required based on facility needs
