Junior Geotechnical Field Technician

Responsibilities

What You'll Execute

As a junior geotechnical field technician, you'll work on slope stabilization and emergency response projects across Canada. Your specific tasks vary by project—on any given week you might be drilling, applying shotcrete, installing soil nails, pumping grout, or setting anchors.

Your core responsibilities include:

  • Executing geohazard mitigation techniques under experienced supervision: shotcrete application, drilling, soil nail wall installation, anchoring, grouting, and slope stabilization systems
  • Operating equipment safely and maintaining tools and machinery
  • Following safety plans rigorously—protecting yourself and the team is priority #1
  • Learning multiple disciplines and building technical depth across all techniques we use
  • Supporting jobsite organization, equipment care, and quality standards
  • Communicating clearly with team members and supervisors

Qualifications

What You Bring

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 0–2 years of construction experience (geotechnical, environmental, civil, or related fields a plus, but willingness to learn is key)
  • Enthusiasm for hands-on technical work and equipment operation
  • Strong commitment to safety and following procedures
  • Clear communication skills—able to take direction and ask clarifying questions
  • Flexibility to travel and adapt to varying schedules across Canada
  • Valid driver's license (Class 5 or equivalent; Class 1 Commercial an asset)

Preferred:

  • Experience with construction equipment, power tools, or machinery
  • Basic knowledge of geotechnical terminology
  • Previous safety training or certifications

Work & Travel Expectations

  • Outdoor work in varied Canadian climates (mountains, plains, coastal regions, variable seasons)
  • Typical construction-site hazards, noise levels, and weather exposure
  • Regular lifting of 50–75 lbs+
  • Regional travel across Canada as needed (typically 30–50% depending on project schedule)
