Regional Director - Commercial HVAC/R

Position Summary

The Regional Director (Commander) – Workflow & Execution is responsible for owning and driving Business Unit performance for the Alpha Unit while establishing operational excellence across Helios HVACR. This role serves as the central point of accountability for revenue execution, gross margin performance, workforce productivity, service delivery, system compliance, and leadership accountability.

The Commander partners closely with Directors, Service Managers, Dispatch, Finance, Client Management, Billing, and Talent Acquisition to identify performance gaps, eliminate operational bottlenecks, enforce standards, and implement corrective actions that improve business outcomes. Success in this role requires strong analytical capabilities, operational discipline, leadership influence, and the ability to drive accountability through data-driven decision making.

Key Responsibilities

Business Unit Performance Ownership

· Own weekly, monthly, and annual Business Unit performance results.

· Monitor revenue attainment against forecast and execute corrective actions to achieve plan.

· Drive gross margin performance through active management of labor, materials, subcontractor costs, and operational efficiencies.

· Ensure technician productivity, utilization, and work order throughput meet company standards.

· Monitor service delivery performance, response times, first-time fix rates, and customer commitments.

· Partner with Service Managers to identify performance gaps and implement improvement plans.

· Maintain accountability for safety compliance and immediate resolution of incidents or risks.

· Deliver weekly Business Unit performance reviews including KPIs, root causes, corrective actions, and progress updates.

Executive Reporting & Performance Management

· Lead weekly operational reporting cadence for executive leadership.

· Analyze business performance trends and identify operational risks and opportunities.

· Develop actionable recommendations based on data and root cause analysis.

· Track accountability for corrective actions and ensure timely resolution.

· Highlight performance concerns involving business units, leaders, or technicians and facilitate recovery plans.

· Maintain visibility of prior commitments, action items, and outcome tracking.

Leadership Development & Organizational Effectiveness

· Facilitate monthly Service Manager leadership forums and development sessions.

· Monitor retention, engagement, turnover trends, and employee experience metrics.

· Identify recurring leadership, training, and workforce challenges.

· Implement leadership development and coaching initiatives designed to improve team performance.

· Reinforce company culture, leadership expectations, and accountability standards.

· Share operational best practices across teams to improve consistency and results

 

Qualifications

· Bachelor's degree in Business, Operations Management, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred.

· 7+ years of operations leadership experience in HVACR, field services, construction services, facilities services, or a related industry.

· Demonstrated success managing P&L performance, operational metrics, and workforce productivity.

· Strong analytical and financial acumen with the ability to interpret operational and financial data.

· Experience utilizing business intelligence and field service management platforms.

· Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence results without direct authority.

· Strong communication, coaching, and accountability management skills.

 

 

Helios determines compensation based on the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $120,000 to $130,000 annually. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
