Position Summary:
As part of the Thermo Fisher Scientific team, the Material Handler I plays a critical role in enabling our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer. This position is responsible for supporting warehouse and production operations through the safe, compliant, and efficient handling of materials in accordance with company policies, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accurately pick, pack, stage, and ship materials in alignment with customer requirements and internal procedures
- Perform material movements (raw materials, components, finished goods) using manual methods or powered industrial equipment (as certified)
- Execute transactions within ERP/WMS systems with a high degree of accuracy
- Maintain inventory integrity (FIFO/FEFO as applicable)
- Ensure materials are properly labeled, stored, and handled in accordance with safety, and quality standards
- Support line-side material replenishment and production staging activities
- Identify and escalate discrepancies, non-conformances, or inventory issues in a timely manner
- Adhere to all Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) policies, including proper use of PPE
- Maintain a clean, organized, and inspection-ready workspace in alignment with 5S principles
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Quality, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain teams to ensure operational efficiency
Physical Requirements / Work Environment:
- Ability to lift and move materials up to 50 lbs
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching
- Work performed in a warehouse or manufacturing environment, which may include exposure to varying temperatures and noise levels
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
- High school diploma or GED Required
Experience:
- 0–2 years of experience in a warehouse, manufacturing, or logistics environment
- Basic computer skills and ability to learn ERP/WMS systems
- Ability to read, understand, and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a regulated environment (GMP, ISO, FDA, etc.)
- Familiarity with SAP or similar ERP systems
- Forklift or powered industrial truck certification (or ability to obtain)
- Understanding of distribution/warehouse practices (FIFO, FEFO)

- Ability to work both independently and within a team environment
- Effective communication and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated reliability and a strong work ethic
Compensation and Benefits
The hourly pay range estimated for this position based in Massachusetts is $13.82–$20.74.This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy.
