What would you do? This role would suit a qualified accountant with excellent Excel and / or data science skills and a passion for continuous improvement.
The role provides a fantastic opportunity to understand the complexities of a commodity trading business across a wide range of trading strategies and books. Reporting to the Head of Financial Control within the Finance team, this role will primarily support the Group Risk Management carried out by the CE business in London.
The role holder will support the FC team in developing financial accounting, reporting and related control processes whilst maintaining an effective system of internal control to ensure integrity and accuracy of financial reporting throughout a sustained period of change.
Record to Report (R2R) is a finance and accounting process that involves collecting, processing, and delivering accurate financial data. This includes recording transactions, reconciling accounts, and preparing financial statements. The goal is to provide a clear and accurate picture of a company s financial performance. Effective R2R processes ensure compliance with accounting standards and support informed decision-making. It is essential for financial transparency and accountability.

What are we looking for? • Understanding of trading concepts covering long/short positions; forwards/futures/ options/swaps; realized/unrealized positions; bid-offer spreads.
• Understanding of accounting for IFRS 9 Financial Instruments and IFRS 13 Fair Value Measurement; derivatives; foreign currency transactions; revaluation; hedge accounting.
• Ability to process and interrogate large trade datasets (50,000+ rows) quickly through spreadsheets, Power Apps or other analysis tools (SQL/Python etc.)
• Experience of physical and financial energy markets and accounting for transactions in these markets preferable
• Experience with financial accounting and reporting systems would be preferable. e.g. SAP, BPC, BW
• Ability to learn and understand accounting and trading concepts
• Ability to learn and understand commercial aspects and associated accounting for a variety of contract types
• Technically savvy and desire to learn how to operate with trading systems (e.g. Endur, EOS, Falcon) and process and interrogate large trade datasets (50,000 rows) quickly through spreadsheet (or other) analysis tools
• A process-focused individual with a passion for continuous improvement and ability to deliver change involving multiple stakeholders
• Accounting Graduates with minimum 3 - 5 years of relevant experience in F&A (CA, ICWAI or CMA preferred)
• Relevant understanding of accounting for IFRS 9 Financial Instruments and IFRS 13 Fair Value Measurement; derivatives; foreign currency transactions; revaluation; hedge accounting.
• Understanding of trading concepts covering long/short positions; forwards/futures/ options/swaps; realized/unrealized positions; bid-offer spreads. Presenting P&L and balance sheet to client stakeholders for review and signoff process
• Good Accounting Skills & Sound understanding of Concepts & Principles.

Roles and Responsibilities: Support the Month-End Financial Control process for CE. Examples include:
• Journal upload & ensuring data integrity in SAP
• Integrity review process with other Finance stakeholders
• Income Statement/Balance Sheet/Cash Flow reporting deliverables
• Month-End submission and controls completion
• Year End and Half Year additional reporting requirements including Auditor deliverables
Help drive continuous improvement through the Finance automation agenda:
• Gain efficiencies through using Microsoft Power Apps
• Re-design and move process onto Power BI
• Work with the rest of the team to build a world class accounting and reporting function
Develop effective working relationships with the wider Centrica Finance, Business Finance and Product Control teams to ensure the trading of the business is accurately represented in the external reporting.
