Space Audit Senior Manager – Mission Success
Description:Lockheed Martin is seeking a Senior Manager to lead the Space Audit team as part of the Mission Success organization. In this role, you will manage a multi‑functional organization engaging program management, and functional groups across business process owners and the technical community. This role drives the planning, execution, and reporting of audits, assessments, and consulting engagements across all Lockheed Martin Space process areas.
You will develop a vision to elevate the team’s integration with the business and evolve the value proposition. This role will then shape audit strategy, develop talent, and partner with senior leadership to identify and mitigate risk, ensuring continued compliance with AS9100 and internal audit policies while advancing operational excellence throughout the Space business area.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Planning
• Develop and own the annual Space Audit Plan, securing enterprise coordination, stakeholder approval, and resource allocation.
• Identify, conceptualize, and lead enterprise‑wide improvement initiatives that enhance process effectiveness, reliability, and risk posture.
• Collaborate with Corporate Internal Audit and other Business Area audit teams to share insights, leverage best practices, and identify synergies. Represent the Space Business Area as a member of the Corporate Audit Council.
Audit Execution & Management
• Lead a multi‑functional team of engineers, operations specialists, and business‑systems professionals in conducting audits, assessments, and consulting engagements.
• Oversee the determination of compliance, effectiveness, and reliability of processes and control systems across all LM Space process areas.
• Evaluate corrective and preventive action plans, approving closure of findings and high‑risk items ensuring solution robustness, effectiveness and sustainment.
• Ensure adherence to all applicable audit policies, procedures, mandatory / regulatory (e.g. FAR/DFARS), and AS9100 certification requirements at the Space level.
• Develop, consolidate, and present engagement findings, risks, and actionable recommendations to Space Line of Business (LOB) / Program and Major Functional Organization (MFO) leadership.
Talent Development & Team Management
• Accountable for auditor training and qualification, including audit techniques, process knowledge, leadership skills, entrance/exit conferences, report writing, and outcome management.
• Maintain optimal staffing of the audit team, focusing on critical skill sets, succession planning, and professional development.
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
• Provide support to Space Lines of Business (LOBs) and Major Functional Organizations (MFOs) on business practice improvements, process redesigns, and controls enhancements.
• Synthesize aggregate trends and craft executive‑level messaging on engagement results, risk profiles, and mitigation plans.
• Elevate critical issues to senior leadership, recommending timely actions and driving visibility of high‑impact risks.
Continuous Improvement & Compliance
• Support continued AS9100 certification by monitoring compliance, recommending updates to processes, and ensuring audit findings are addressed in a thorough and timely manner.
• Make recommendations for process improvements that better serve business objectives and enhance efficiency.
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in technical discipline (e.g. engineering) or equivalent discipline (e.g. math, physics, chemistry, etc.) or equivalent experience/combined education or a Master's degree.
• 10+ years of technical experience in a related discipline (e.g. Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Integration & Test, Audit or anything else).
• Knowledge of root cause analysis methodologies or demonstrated experience in the development and evaluation of effective preventive/corrective action plans.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills including demonstrated executive presentation skills.
• Full Spectrum Leadership behaviors.
• US Citizenship and the willingness and ability to obtain a TS/SCI Access clearance.
Desired Skills:
• Current DoD Secret Clearance or higher
• At least 5 years of experience managing or leading personnel. Previous coded leadership, and experience leading cross-functional, and/or multidisciplinary teams a plus.
• Experience engaging senior leadership at all levels including the Space Executive Leadership Team (ELT);
• Demonstrated ability to plan complex projects, secure cross functional coordination, obtain formal stakeholder approval and ensure alignment with overall business area objectives and timely delivery of high impact outcomes.
• Demonstrated leadership of improvement initiatives including cross-functional, cross-LOB or cross-Business Area engagement; Ability to identify, implement, and measure the effectiveness of process improvements.
• Demonstrated critical thinking and problem solving skills.
• Stakeholder analysis and engagement skills: ability to map, prioritize, and communicate with diverse internal and external parties (engineers, operations personnel, business systems professionals, customers, regulatory bodies, senior leadership).
• Familiarity with Aerospace Standard AS9100, Quality System - Requirements for Aviation, Space, and Defense Organizations; Previous AS9100 certifications (e.g. Lead Auditor) a plus.
• Familiarity with Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) business systems and associated requirements.
• Familiarity with enterprise risk frameworks and mitigation planning.
• Advanced data analysis capabilities; proficiency with risk/issue management tools, risk assessment matrices, and statistical techniques; Experience with leveraging artificial-intelligence (AI) tools for data mining/interpretation a plus.
• Wide-ranging knowledge of or familiarity with Lockheed Martin Space Command Media.
• Previous experience engaging with LM Corporate functions

Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 9x80 every other Friday off
Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California, Massachusetts, and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $144,600 - $255,070. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.

(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.

Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in most major metropolitan areas in California, Massachusetts, and New York is $166,400 - $288,305.
