Get To Know Our Team
As the Indirect Tax Compliance Senior Specialist or Manager — depending on the level of experience — you will work for Agoda Services Co., Ltd in Bangkok and report directly to the Senior Manager, Head of Indirect Tax Compliance. You will be part of the Finance team (approximately 300 professionals).
The focus of this position is to manage the tax operational matters related to indirect taxes for Agoda.com, including registration and compliance obligations in jurisdictions where Agoda.com is required to register for indirect taxes.
This is a role for someone who thrives in cross-functional environments, brings curiosity about how AI and technology can supercharge tax workflows, and wants to be part of shaping how a leading e-commerce travel platform manages its indirect tax obligations globally. Due to the rapid growth of the organization, the tasks and duties of this role may evolve over time — you will be keen to develop, take on additional challenges, and grow within the role.
In This Role, You'll Get To
Own the indirect tax compliance process — overseeing preparation, review, and quality assurance of returns across registered jurisdictions.
Lead compliance-side User Acceptance Testing (“UAT”) for new indirect tax registrations — validating that system configurations, data flows, return generation logic, and filing structures correctly reflect the compliance requirements.
Maintain a clear view of the registration pipeline from the Advisory team and ensure compliance readiness tracks alongside each registration milestone.
Continuously assess and improve compliance workflows — identifying inefficiencies, gaps, or manual steps that create risk or slow down the process and driving solutions in collaboration with Tax Data & Technology.
Support Tax Authority queries and audit responses related to filed returns, working with the Advisory team and external advisors on positions where technical judgement is required.
Build and maintain clear process documentation for each registered jurisdiction
Leverage AI tools and automation to reduce manual effort in compliance workflows, from return preparation and reconciliation to deadline tracking and correspondence management.
Act as the compliance execution point of contact for stakeholders — providing clear, timely updates on UAT progress, return readiness, and compliance status across the portfolio.
Contribute to indirect tax awareness across the organization, helping non-tax stakeholders understand what compliance obligations follow a registration and what they need to provide.
What You'll Need to Succeed
Qualifications & Technical Knowledge
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Tax, Accounting, Finance, or any business-related field. Chartered Accountant (or equivalent) or a graduate degree in taxation is a definite asset.
Minimum 6 years of indirect tax experience in a multinational environment; Big 4, top-tier law firm, or in-house at a major e-commerce or technology company highly regarded.
Strong technical knowledge of VAT/GST in an international context — both mature and developing jurisdictions — with hands-on experience reviewing returns, managing compliance calendars, and performing reconciliations across multiple jurisdictions.
Great to have: Experience managing indirect tax registrations, including e-invoicing and API connection, across multiple countries
Industry & Systems Experience
Prior experience in e-commerce, online travel, marketplace, or digital platform businesses is highly valued — familiarity with how these business models create complex, multi-jurisdictional indirect tax obligations simultaneously.
Experience with indirect tax setup in ERP systems and tax engine platforms (e.g., Oracle, Vertex, Avalara), including participation in system configuration and UAT discussions.
Collaboration & Communication
A natural collaborator who actively seeks out partnership rather than operating independently — comfortable as the compliance execution counterpart to advisory and technology teams, and able to manage multiple stakeholder relationships simultaneously.
Project management expertise, including strong organizational and change management skills — detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
Technology & AI Mindset
Demonstrated experience using AI tools, automation platforms, or data analytics in a tax or finance workflow — comfortable working with large datasets, performing data-driven reconciliations, and using data to identify anomalies and improve return quality.
It's Great if You Also Have
Self-motivated and results-oriented, with a professional 'get it done' attitude and work ethic.
Ability to grasp the detail whilst keeping sight of the big picture, and to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Adapts well to and is energized by change.
