We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Financial Controller to join our Finance team at Octopus Energy Services!
This role will report to the CFO and play a crucial role in the day-to-day financial operations of the company. This role will entail preparation of financial reports, month-end processes, and ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards. You will be working closely with the business to assist with day-to-day finance management and identifying any commercial risks or opportunities to improve the business’ position. You’ll be central to key financial decisions and will need to be ready to work quickly, pragmatically and comfortable with our fast paced environment.
What you'll do
Prepare monthly divisional and consolidated management accounts, liaising with finance representatives to finalise results, reporting on variances as required and providing commercial insight
Own the annual audit process, acting as the primary point of contact for external auditors, and preparing statutory accounts in accordance with IFRS
Ensure that reporting is compliant with all relevant accounting standards and keeping up to date with new reporting standards that may impact the company
Act as the first point of contact for technical accounting and financial reporting
Perform balance sheet and inter-company reconciliations to ensure integrity of the general ledger and financial records
Reviewing monthly VAT returns and liaising with tax to provide necessary reporting
Manage and develop the financial reporting team, promoting high standards and reviewing their work as necessary
Provide support in the preparation of budgets and forecasts
Drive continuous process innovation to improve reporting accuracy, strengthen controls and improve efficiency
What you'll need
Qualified Chartered Accountant (ACA / ACCA / CPA, essential)
At least 3 years post-qualification experience in a financial accounting or similar role
Strong technical knowledge of UK GAAP and IFRS accounting standards, including leasing
Prior experience managing complex audits
Inventory experience
Comfortable and confident with presenting to senior leaders
Proactive and self-motivated with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy
Experience with financial accounting software (NetSuite) would be beneficial
