Finance & Accounting Manager

Jobgether · US

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Finance & Accounting Manager based in the United States.

This role sits at the intersection of mission-driven science and rigorous financial stewardship, supporting a portfolio of innovative research organizations operating under a unique nonprofit model. You will oversee end-to-end accounting operations across multiple entities, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and clarity in financial reporting. The position requires someone comfortable navigating complexity, from grants and audits to consolidated reporting across distributed teams. You will work closely with finance leadership, research teams, and external partners to translate financial data into actionable insight. This is a highly collaborative environment where precision matters, but so does the ability to communicate financial concepts to non-finance stakeholders. It is an opportunity to help build the financial backbone that enables ambitious, large-scale scientific initiatives.

Accountabilities:

  • Oversee monthly close processes across multiple entities, including reconciliations, treasury functions, AP/AR, payroll, and liabilities at both entity and consolidated levels.
  • Manage financial oversight and reporting for grants, including government funding compliance and detailed reporting requirements.
  • Review monthly financial statements for accuracy, consistency, and decision-usefulness, providing insights and recommending improvements.
  • Support audit readiness, including preparation of schedules, coordination with auditors, and assistance with 990 filings and compliance documentation.
  • Strengthen internal financial systems, workflows, and SOPs while maintaining strong internal controls across organizations.
  • Communicate financial results and insights clearly to both technical and non-finance stakeholders, enabling better organizational decision-making.
  • Requirements:

This role requires strong nonprofit accounting expertise combined with experience managing complex financial environments involving grants, audits, and multi-entity structures. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, systems-savvy, and able to balance compliance rigor with practical decision-making. Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential, particularly in translating financial complexity into accessible insights for diverse stakeholders.

    • Strong background in nonprofit accounting, including fund accounting, restricted/unrestricted funds, and government grants
    • Experience with audits, including single audits and preparation of financial statements and Form 990s
    • Proven experience managing or supporting federal grant compliance and reporting requirements
    • Strong understanding of accounting systems and financial tools, with ability to manage multi-system environments
    • High attention to detail with the ability to prioritize material issues over immaterial complexities
    • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-finance audiences
    • Ability to improve processes, strengthen controls, and contribute to scalable financial operations
    • Benefits:

      • Competitive salary aligned with transparent benchmarking practices ($111,000–$159,000 depending on location)
      • Up to 6% employer 401(k) match
      • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, with most plans fully covered for employees and dependents
      • Company-paid life insurance, AD&D, disability coverage, and optional supplemental insurance
      • 19 paid holidays, including a full week off at year-end
      • Generous PTO policy with additional sick and parental leave
      • Fertility benefits and childcare reimbursement support
      • Professional development and education stipends
      • Wellness allowance for health and lifestyle expenses
      • Regular in-person offsites and team retreats (up to three per year)
      • Fully remote work flexibility with periodic travel for onsite collaboration
