Director, Business Development

Overview

The Mastercard Canada Fintech & Ecosystem Enablement team sits at the forefront of innovation, partnering with some of the most dynamic and high-growth companies shaping the future of financial services in Canada. These partners span the evolving payments value chain—from issuers and acquirers to program managers, processors, emerging platforms, and other ecosystem stakeholders.

We are seeking a Director, Fintech Business Development to join a high-performing, agile team responsible for driving growth across a portfolio of strategic fintech partners. This role blends business development and account management, requiring an individual who can originate, structure, and execute new opportunities while deepening and expanding existing relationships.

You will play a critical role in developing Mastercard’s presence in the Canadian fintech ecosystem—working closely with internal product, technology, marketing, finance, and legal teams to deliver innovative, value-driven solutions that accelerate partner growth and position Mastercard as the partner of choice. This role spans Mastercard’s full suite of capabilities, including core card payments, money movement solutions, value-added services, and emerging technologies such as stablecoin and agentic commerce.

Role
• Own and grow a portfolio of fintech partners, driving both new business development and ongoing account expansion across issuing, value-added services, and emerging technologies
• Build and deepen senior-level relationships, positioning Mastercard as a trusted strategic partner and expanding engagement across the ecosystem
• Develop and execute account strategies and pipelines, translating partner needs into actionable growth plans and revenue opportunities
• Lead end-to-end deal execution, including business case development, commercial structuring, negotiations, and contract management
• Apply consultative selling principles to educate partners on the ecosystem and originate new opportunities, proactively engaging emerging fintech partners and use cases
• Collaborate cross-functionally with local and global teams to deliver integrated client solutions
• Develop the fintech ecosystem, building relationships across platforms, processors, incubators, and accelerators

All About You
• Proven ability to thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments, balancing multiple priorities while delivering results
• Strong business development and account management experience, with a demonstrated consultative sales approach and track record of originating and growing complex partnerships
• Ability to quickly learn and apply new concepts, particularly across payments, fintech, and technology
• Exceptional relationship-building skills, with experience engaging and influencing stakeholders at all levels, including senior executives
• Strong strategic thinking and analytical capabilities, with the ability to translate insights into actionable opportunities
• Clear and effective communicator, able to simplify complex concepts, articulate value propositions, and translate Mastercard processes and solutions for different partners and stakeholders
• Collaborative and able to influence without direct authority in a matrixed organization
• Highly intellectually curious, with a strong interest in fintech trends and continuous learning
• Experience in fintech, payments, or technology is an asset
• Post-secondary education required; MBA or equivalent experience is an asset
