Web and Brand Designer - Breakout Prop

Kraken · United States

Building the Future of Open Finance

Payward - the parent company behind Kraken, NinjaTrader, Breakout, xStocks, Payward Services and CF Benchmarks - has spent the last 15 years building one of the most modern and globally accessible financial infrastructure platforms in the industry, built to advance an open, global financial system.

Before you apply, we encourage you to explore our culture page to understand what drives us and how we work.

The team

Breakout is a crypto prop trading program that gives skilled traders access to capital, with up to 90% of profits going to the trader. Traders pass a one-step evaluation, then trade funded accounts up to $200K with on-demand profit withdrawals, 24/7.

You will own design for Breakout across web, lifecycle, and brand, with web as the clear priority. This is a hands-on, in-the-trenches role, not a manager role. You are not here to manage designers. You are here to design the web pages and marketing assets that bring new traders to Breakout, and to build the systems that let the rest of the team design without you.

Reporting directly to the VP of Growth, you will own the design of our website and core conversion flows, then carry that craft into the wider marketing surface: lifecycle email, organic social, and the brand system that holds it all together. Web is the priority, and because you own the website end-to-end, strong UX and conversion instincts are essential — how pages are structured, how visitors move through them, and how that turns into signups. Everything else compounds off the same foundation.

The part that makes this role different is AI. We want someone who builds scalable design systems with AI so the wider team can self-serve. Instead of being the bottleneck for every page, slide, banner, and email, you will design the components, templates, prompts, and guardrails that let Conversion, Social, Lifecycle, and Marketing Operations produce on-brand work on their own — and you will keep raising the ceiling on what those systems can do.

You will work side-by-side with our Conversion, Content, Social, Lifecycle, and Marketing Operations teammates, and with Payward's (Kraken's) design and brand teams where their scale helps. You will turn copy into pages, ideas into prototypes, and one-off requests into reusable systems.

We are looking for a designer who is fluent in AI tooling and energised by it, not threatened by it. Someone who treats Claude Design, Figma, and the current generation of AI design tools as force multipliers, and who would rather build the machine that makes a hundred assets than hand-make all hundred.

The opportunity

  • Own web design and UX end-to-end. Design the Breakout website, landing pages, and conversion flows, owning the UX and information architecture from first wireframe to dev-ready handoff. This is where most of your time goes.

  • Build the AI design system that lets the team self-serve. Turn our highest-friction, highest-volume design requests into components, templates, prompts, and automations the wider team can run without you. The goal is simple: stop being the bottleneck.

  • Extend design across the marketing surface. Take the same system into lifecycle email, organic social, and campaign visuals so everything reads as one brand, no matter who shipped it.

  • Own and evolve the brand system. Maintain and govern Breakout's brand guidelines, component library, and asset toolkit so the brand stays consistent as output scales across the team.

  • Use AI as your primary production engine. Claude Design, Figma (including Figma Make), and Nano Banana Pro are examples of what we use today — we want you to come in, recommend the right stack, and use it to take us from idea to high-fidelity output in hours, not weeks.

  • Prototype fast. Turn copy and concepts into clickable, code-backed prototypes the team can react to and test, rather than static mockups that stall in review.

  • Partner with engineering on a clean handoff. Work closely with our developers on the website build and component implementation so what you design is what ships.

  • Set the design quality bar. Define what good looks like for Breakout across web, email, and social, and keep raising it as AI tooling improves.

  • Partner with Payward's (Kraken's) design and brand teams where their scale and systems accelerate what you are doing at Breakout, and share back what you build.

  • Document your systems for the whole org. Turn what you build into guidelines, prompt libraries, and how-tos that make self-serve design actually stick.

What you bring

  • 5+ years of hands-on web and digital design experience, with a strong portfolio of shipped web and marketing design work in a fast-moving environment.

  • Web UX and conversion first. Deep command of website UX: information architecture, responsive layout, design systems, interaction and conversion design, and dev-ready handoff in Figma. You understand how design choices move conversion.

  • Strong, demonstrable AI design skills. You already design with AI day to day. Experience with Claude Design and other AI visual design tools is essential — for example Figma Make / Figma AI and Nano Banana Pro.

  • A systems builder, not a one-off maker. You think in components, templates, and reusable patterns. You have built design systems or tooling that let other people produce on-brand work without you.

  • Range across the marketing surface. Comfortable designing not just web, but lifecycle email, organic social, and brand assets, and making them feel like one system.

  • Brand sensibility without preciousness. You can hold and evolve a brand while the team ships fast, keeping things consistent without slowing them down.

  • Prototyping chops. You can produce clickable, code-backed prototypes (HTML/CSS comfort or AI-assisted code is a plus) so ideas can be tested, not just imagined.

  • Strong collaborator and communicator. Clean handoffs to engineering, fast in Slack threads, and able to brief and enable non-designers to use the systems you build.

  • Bias to ship. You do not wait for permission to prototype. You propose, build, and iterate.

  • Crypto-native or genuinely curious about crypto, trading, and prop, with a drive to help us define the category.

Nice to have

  • Performance creative design — experience designing and iterating paid ad creative (static, motion, and video) at volume.

  • Motion and video skills (After Effects, Rive, or AI motion tools).

  • Front-end coding ability (HTML/CSS/React, or comfort shipping via AI code tools like v0 or Lovable).

  • Experience in crypto, fintech, trading, or another regulated, high-intent category.

  • Experience building or running a design system used by a cross-functional team at scale.
