EngineeringJob Description:
Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc.
When you join Caterpillar, you're joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do – but also about each other. We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don't just talk about progress and innovation here – we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.
Job Responsibilities:
Continuously monitor domestic and international power battery cell technology trends, covering new chemistries and systems such as NCM, LFP, and condensed-state batteries, as well as novel structures (large cylindrical cells, CTP, fast charging, long lifecycle, module-less designs, etc.). Deliver annual cell technology roadmap assessment reports and benchmarking analyses to support the company's battery product planning and iterative decision-making.
Integrate requirements for vehicle range, fast charging, lifecycle, and cost to complete multi-supplier cell benchmarking, risk and cost assessments, and establish selection standards to facilitate cell designation and integration.
Plan verification of cell electrical performance, high/low temperature, lifecycle, and safety. Evaluate compatibility with BMS, thermal management, and pack structure, providing optimization solutions and design constraints.
Act as the main contact window for OEMs, responsible for cell introduction, specification change reviews, and participating in supplier capability audits and quality issue rectification to ensure stable cell delivery quality.
Address cell abnormalities in vehicles/battery packs, such as voltage differences, degradation, self-discharge, and thermal risks. Utilize 8D/5Why methods to pinpoint root causes, distinguish between cell, system, and operating condition issues, and drive supplier corrective actions to closure.
Establish cell selection, qualification, application guidelines, and restricted item standards. Improve benchmarking databases and failure case libraries to reduce risks in mass production and after-sales.
Coordinate with battery system, BMS, calibration, procurement, and other teams to deliver technical requirements, track cell adaptation progress for various models, and ensure projects meet mass production timelines.
