Drilling and Blasting Engineer (Mashonaland West)

Operational Responsibilities
Coordinate drilling activities with blasting, surveying, production, and mine planning teams.
Support continuous improvement initiatives to optimize drilling efficiency and operational performance.
Lead and supervise drilling crews, supervisors, and dispatch personnel. Manage rosters, assignments, and resource allocation.
Provide coaching, feedback, and performance management.
Support training and skill development program.
Monitor drilling performance, penetration rates, equipment utilization, and operational efficiency.
Conduct pit inspections to verify compliance with mine designs, drilling patterns, bench conditions, and safety requirements.
Coordinate with maintenance teams to ensure drill equipment availability and minimize operational downtime.
Lead daily pre-start meetings, shift handovers, and operational coordination meetings.
Prepare daily production reports, drilling summaries, and operational performance documentation.
Maintain accurate shift records, incident reports, drilling logs, and operational documentation.
Review and verify compliance with mine plans, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Traffic Management Plans.
Allocate and optimize drilling fleet, support equipment, and personnel resources to maximize productivity.
Monitor operational KPIs including equipment utilization, drilling rates, downtime, and production performance.
Implement corrective actions to address operational deviations, delays, or performance issues.
Safety Responsibilities
Ensure all drilling activities comply with company safety policies, site procedures, and legal regulations.
Conduct and review risk assessments and ensure appropriate control measures are implemented.
Promote a strong safety culture through visible leadership and active field engagement.
Ensure compliance with Permit to Work systems, SOPs, and safe drilling practices.
Participate in incident investigations and support implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
Report and address unsafe conditions or behaviors immediately.
Environmental Responsibilities
Ensure drilling operations are conducted in compliance with environmental standards and site environmental management plans.
Support dust suppression, water management, spill prevention, and rehabilitation activities.
Monitor drilling activities to minimize environmental impact and operational disturbances.
Ensure proper handling and disposal of drilling consumables, fuels, lubricants, and waste materials.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Mining Engineering (Mandatory).
Valid Blasting License (Mandatory).
Minimum of 5 years of experience in open-pit mining or large-scale earthmoving operations, including at least 3 years in a supervisory role or equivalent operational leadership position.
Strong understanding of drilling operations, mine planning, production coordination, and equipment utilization.
Ability to interpret mine plans, operational reports, and production data.
Certifications in supervision, operations management, or leadership.
Experience working in large-scale open-pit mining operations.
Familiarity with fleet management systems, production monitoring software, and mine planning tools.
Additional training in safety management, risk assessment, or environmental compliance.
