Software Engineer II
Overview
Prepaid Management Services is the division of Mastercard that focuses on prepaid solutions, including the Multi‑Currency Cash Passport product. Traditionally centred on the travel sector, this business unit is now driving prepaid adoption globally through innovative, industry‑leading solutions integrated with global brands.
This role sits within the Global Technology Services (GTS) team, part of the broader Mastercard Operations & Technologies organisation. GTS provides high‑quality evolutionary and operational capabilities that support the Prepaid Management Services business.
The Agile Team is a dedicated, self‑organizing group of interdependent, co‑located professionals representing multiple functional roles. The team possesses all the skills necessary to convert Product Backlog items into potentially shippable increments within each sprint.
A hands‑on Software Engineer operates within these multi‑disciplined Agile teams and is responsible for delivering high‑quality, web‑based solutions for both internal and external customers of Prepaid Management Services.
The Agile Team ensures that all development activities adhere to the design standards, development guidelines, and architectural roadmap defined by the Prepaid Management Services Leadership and Architecture teams.
Role & Responsibilities
• Actively participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily stand‑ups, sprint reviews/demonstrations, and retrospectives
• Translate technical designs into high‑quality, production‑ready code
• Collaborate within the team to deliver scalable, high‑quality solutions based on Java technologies
• Develop readable, maintainable code along with appropriate unit tests
• Review existing configurations and installations, providing design recommendations to improve platform environments
• Proactively minimise code complexity and simplify system architecture
• Support test automation and build automation initiatives
• Assist the team with high‑level and detailed feature estimations
• Adhere to established development processes and recommend improvements where appropriate
• Ensure individual tasks are completed on time by working closely with other team members
• Maintain a strong focus on delivery, identifying and resolving issues proactively
• Produce technical design documentation as required
• Ensure solutions comply with the defined architectural roadmap
• Identify and update existing design documentation impacted by system changes

Technical Skills
• Strong understanding of Java development technologies, including:

• Good understanding of UI development using:

• Experience with application servers such as:
• WebSphere

• Solid database development experience with:

• Experience with Pivotal Cloud Foundry is highly desirable
Development Practices & Tools
• Experience with test‑driven development practices and tools (e.g., JUnit, Maven)
• Hands‑on experience with Agile development methodologies

• Experience with CI/CD and quality tools, including:
