Northrop Grumman Space Systems, Multi-Domain Operations, and Missile Defense Integration Business Unit (BU) has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal / Sr. Principal Cyber Systems Engineer – Level 3 or 4 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be in Colorado Springs, CO at Schriever Space Force Base.
Position Overview:
The Modeling and Simulation Vistas – Threat and Advanced Simulation Development (MSV-TASD) at Northrop Grumman Space Systems is looking for you to join our team as a Principal/Sr. Principal Cyber Systems Engineer on the MSV-TASD System Team.
As a Cyber Systems Engineer on this team, you will work with a team of engineers to define, develop, decompose, analyze, verify, validate, and test requirements for a diverse suite of Missile Defense software Modeling and Simulation (M&S) products on the MSV-TASD contract. In this role, you will be supporting the team as a technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) to ensure secure and compliant software that meets the needs of the customer. Ultimately, you will support the program through maturity and milestones to achieve the mission.
Essential Functions:
- Be a cyber focal point for multiple high-fidelity Modeling and Simulation (M&S) applications supporting the defense of the nation
- Collaborate with software developers to design and validate secure architectures and help shape secure coding practices in complex software products
- Drive automation of security evidence collection and integrate checks into CI/CD pipelines
- Have opportunities to expand into software architecture and MBSE expertise
- Brief program and customer leadership on software security posture and recommended paths forward
- Be an integral part of a systems engineering team regularly collaborating with software and M&S engineers
Basic Qualifications:
- Principal Cyber Systems Engineer – Level 3: Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree and 3 years of related experience, or 1 year of related experience with a PhD.
- Sr. Principal Cyber Systems Engineer – Level 4: Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 8 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree and 6 years of related experience, or 4 years of related experience with a PhD.
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs.
- Applicants must have a current active in-scope U.S. Government issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and Atlassian (Jira/Confluence) tool suites
- Experienced with vulnerability and risk analysis for complex software systems
- Experienced with development life cycles, including the V-model of the systems engineering process
- High proficiency in technical problem solving
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to include creating documentation during development
- Hands-on experience authoring and managing Risk Management Framework (RMF) artifacts
- Security+ or equivalent certification
- Ability to write automation scripts
- Experience leading or mentoring other engineers in cyber assurance activities (level 4 only)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Software development experience specific to designing and developing compliant, and secure code
- Application, Security, and Development (AS&D) Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) experience
- Information System Security Officer (ISSO) experience
- Hands-on experience creating and maintaining artifacts within Enterprise Mission Assurance Support Service (eMASS)
- Experience with DoD and MDA system accreditation processes
- Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) experience (SysML/UML)
- Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Software Assurance Instruction [DoD 8500.05-INS] familiarity
- Experience collaborating with software development teams; ability to read and understand code-level implementation in Java, C++, and C#
- Ability to write scripts and automate processes (quality control checks, data formatting, document publication, etc.)
- Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or equivalent certification
Primary Level Salary Range: $113,900.00 - $170,900.00
Secondary Level Salary Range: $142,200.00 - $213,200.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
