The role: 

Join our team as the crash data program & systems analyst where you will serve as one of ODOT’s primary experts on statewide motor vehicle crash data—reviewing complex information, ensuring data quality, and supporting the systems that help engineers, planners, law enforcement, and safety partners make informed, collaborated decisions that save lives. You will play a critical role in the transition to ODOT’s new crash data system, helping modernize how we collect, manage, and use safety data across Oregon. A day in the life:

  • Conduct crash data review and develop reports, dashboards, and data products using tools such as SQL, Power BI, Tableau, and Excel.

  • Serve as the unit’s subject matter expert on the Crash Data System (CDS) and national crash data standards.

  • Act as the business lead and system administrator for the crash data system, coordinating enhancements and troubleshooting with IS and system vendors.

  • Develop and maintain data quality processes, validation procedures, and quality control documentation.

  • Produce custom crash data reports for internal and external partners, including engineers, planners, safety programs, and media.

  • Prepare and update manuals, data dictionaries, coding instructions, and user guides.

  • Train new and existing analysts in crash data coding, analysis, and system use.

  • Consult with ODOT staff, law enforcement, safety partners, and public agencies on crash data methods and interpretation.

  • Represent the unit at meetings and conferences, explaining crash data processes, standards, and system functionality.

  • Support development of annual publications and maintain libraries of standard reports and data resources.

  • Work in a standard office environment with remote work available primarily with at least one day a week in-office or more as needed by business needs and projects.

Minimum qualifications:

Four years of research experience using computerized applications to independently gather, compile, and analyze data and prepare narrative or statistical reports;

OR

A bachelor's degree in any discipline that included six-quarter units in statistics or quantitative analysis methods and procedures, and one year experience using computerized applications to independently gather, compile, and analyze data and prepare narrative or statistical reports.

  • Proven experience with data and reporting tools such as SQL, Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.

  • Proven experience communicating technical information effectively to a wide range of partners with varying levels of data expertise.

  • Ability to maintain high standards of data accuracy and quality, following established data standards and best practices.
