A Sr. Professional Engineer position is open with the City of Fort Worth’s Development Services Department in the Infrastructure Plan Review Center (IPRC). This role leads, coordinates, and oversees the engineering review and approval of developer‑driven civil infrastructure projects. Responsibilities include project management, detailed engineering plan review, and evaluation of construction documents such as drawings, technical specifications, contracts, bid proposals, and change orders. The position also provides specialized engineering expertise throughout design and construction phases. Supervisory duties may be assigned, including oversight and guidance of professional engineering staff.

This position qualifies for the following incentives which is separate from the base pay:

***50% paid after the completion of first pay period, 50% paid after the completion of 6 months of employment. ***

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering or a related field.
  • Three (3) years of professional civil engineering experience as a registered professional engineer of which two (2) years must be within or related to the area of assigned responsibility.
  • Possession of registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas.  If licensed in another state, continued employment will be contingent upon obtaining registration as a Professional Engineer within the State of Texas within six (6) months of employment.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid Texas driver's license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Project Management experience
  • Experience with Bluebeam, Accela or other similar project management software
  • Municipal Government experience.

The Sr. Professional Engineer job responsibilities include:

  • Manages public infrastructure plan reviews for private developments to ensure 100% compliance with city, state, and federal requirements. Delivers comprehensive technical guidance to development teams to resolve design conflicts and uphold engineering standards.
  • Oversees and coordinates the full project lifecycle for public infrastructure within private developments, managing cross-functional resources and timelines from initial design through final construction.
  • Facilitates end-to-end IPRC Plan Reviews, acting as the central point of contact for developers, consultants, and regulatory bodies (e.g., TxDOT, Railroads). Drives project momentum through proactive stakeholder engagement and expert navigation of municipal and federal compliance standards.
  • Analyzes key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate the quality and responsiveness of the development review process, identifying bottlenecks and implementing data-backed improvements.
  • Drives continuous improvement by developing new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and refining existing goals to enhance service delivery and regulatory compliance.
  • Assumes leadership for staff, overseeing complex workflows and resource allocation while providing the technical oversight necessary to achieve departmental objectives.
  • Cross-trains to provide continuity of leadership by fulfilling the Engineering Manager’s duties during vacancies, ensuring no disruption to project timelines or departmental goals.
