What You will be Doing
We are looking for a Staff Test Automation Engineer to lead quality engineering across two high-impact initiatives: our Voice AI, Monitoring & Analytics Platform. In this role you will architect and own the end-to-end test automation strategy, drive quality culture across cross-functional teams, and mentor engineers on best practices.
You will work closely with product engineering, platform, and data teams to embed quality upstream, shifting left from reactive bug-finding to proactive prevention at the architecture level.
What You Will Bring to ChargePoint
- Design and own the overall test automation framework and strategy across both Voice AI and Monitoring & Analytics platforms
- Define test pyramid principles - unit, integration, contract, E2E and enforce them across repositories
- Lead architecture decisions for automation tooling, CI/CD test pipelines, and observability of test health
- Establish standards for test data management, environment parity, and flakiness elimination
- Own the performance testing practice - load, stress, soak, and spike testing for backend services and APIs
- Define performance baselines, SLOs, and regression gates integrated into CI/CD
- Instrument test runs with profiling and APM tooling to identify throughput bottlenecks and latency regressions
- Build scalable performance test harnesses using Locust, k6, or equivalent frameworks
Collaboration & Communication:
- Act as a technical lead and quality champion, influencing engineering culture, coding standards, and test coverage expectations
- Mentor mid-level and senior engineers on automation patterns, code quality, and testing strategy
- Partner with product managers to define acceptance criteria and quality gates at the story level
- Drive root cause analysis on escaped defects and build preventive test coverage
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in software quality engineering with a strong automation focus
- Proven track record at Staff level, owning QE strategy for complex distributed systems
- Expert-level Python clean, testable, production-grade automation code
- Hands-on experience with Playwright for E2E browser automation including multi-tab, auth flows, and visual testing
- Deep familiarity with FastAPI and Django - understanding of service internals for effective API-level testing
- Strong experience designing and executing performance test programs (load, stress, soak) at scale
- Experience testing cloud-native platforms on GCP, AWS, or Azure, Kubernetes workloads, managed services, event pipelines
- Familiarity with observability stacks: Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, or similar
- Solid understanding of CI/CD principles and integrating automation into deployment pipelines
- Excellent communication skills, able to present quality strategy to both engineers and executive stakeholders
