About the Role:
We're looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to build the paved road for product teams and drive adoption at scale. You'll design and operate the developer platform that powers our services, with a particular focus on building AI-native platform tooling: from agentic service catalogs and MCP-backed APIs to golden paths for AI agent deployment. We use Backstage for service provisioning and templating, but our platform investment is moving toward AI-first tooling that serves both engineers and agentic systems as first-class users.
You Will:
Maintain and extend service provisioning foundations: Keep Backstage-based service templating healthy for greenfield use cases. Contribute to our growing service catalog layer: a YAML-backed, AI-enriched registry exposed via REST API and MCP, designed to be queryable by both engineers and agentic systems
Build and scale agent golden paths: Evolve our agentic infrastructure from experiments to standard architecture. Treat AI agents as first-class platform users: defining deployment standards, and building the guardrails that let teams ship agents safely and consistently
Drive service mesh adoption: Lead the rollout and standardization of Istio across the fleet: covering mTLS, traffic shaping, and policy enforcement and build the golden paths and runbooks that make mesh adoption straightforward for product teams
Establish platform guardrails: Define scorecards/insights and CI policies (lint, contract checks, security baselines) that raise signals and make it easy for teams to get to “green”
Own core platform components: Design, build, and operate Kubernetes, IaC (e.g., Terraform), CI/CD pipelines, service templates, runtime addons, and shared libraries with SLOs and clear runbooks
Work closely with product teams: Partner with a rotating set of squads to co‑design golden paths, collect feedback, remove friction, and measure adoption and impact
Lead migrations and deprecations: Plan and execute multi‑repo changes (API versioning, SDK upgrades, framework/runtime bumps) with clear comms, docs, and safe rollout strategies
Measure what matters: Instrument developer experience and delivery metrics; use data to prioritize and iterate the platform roadmap
You Have:
5+ years as a DevOps, SRE, Software, or Platform Engineer building and operating services and the tooling around them
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent years of experience
Production experience with Backstage (or a similar developer portal), service catalogs, and software templates
Depth in cloud + containers (e.g., AWS, Kubernetes, Istio), infrastructure‑as‑code (Terraform or similar), and CI/CD
Proficient coding skills in at least one of TypeScript/JavaScript, Go, Java, or Python and familiarity with multi‑repo change management
A product mindset with empathy for developers; you seek feedback, simplify workflows, and bias toward adoption
Experience enabling AI-assisted software delivery at scale, building agent-ready platform workflows, policy-as-code guardrails, and automated review/remediation pipelines for AI-generated code (especially infrastructure as code)
Preferred Qualifications:
Proven track record making platforms that developers choose to use self‑service workflows, templates, and documentation that accelerate delivery
Experience leading large-scale dependency and framework upgrades across many repos/services (e.g., automated PRs, codemods, or templated migrations), with safe rollout and measurable adoption
Hands‑on with observability (Datadog Preferred but Prometheus/Grafana, OpenTelemetry will all work)
Security-first mindset and experience with secrets management, IAM/least privilege, container scanning, etc
Comfortable with RFCs, technical writing, and leading cross‑org programs
Our Benefits (there are more but here are some highlights):
Competitive salary & equity compensation for full-time roles
Unlimited PTO, company holidays, and quarterly mental health days
Comprehensive health benefits including medical, dental & vision, and parental leave
Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP)
401k benefits with employer matching contribution
Offsite team retreats
We are committed to building a workforce that reflects diverse perspectives and prioritizes ethics, wellness, and a strong sense of belonging. If you're excited about this role, we encourage you to apply—even if you're not sure if your background or experience is a perfect match.
