The Role

As a Mainframe z/OS System Administrator  at Kyndryl, you’ll solve complex problems and identify potential future issues across the spectrum of platforms and services. You’ll be at the forefront of new technology and modernization, working with some of our biggest clients – which means some of the biggest in the world.

There’s never a typical day as a System Administrator at Kyndryl, because no two projects are alike. You’ll be managing systems data for clients and providing day-to-day solutions and security compliance. You’ll oversee a queue of assignments and work directly with technicians, prioritizing tickets to deliver the best solutions to our clients.

Required Technical and Professional Experience

  • 6+ years of z/OS system programming experience covering work, user, journal, and performance management.

  • Manage z/OS OS and related IBM/ISV products: installation, upgrades, customization, and maintenance via SMP/E and non-SMP/E.

  • Operate in multi-CPU and Sysplex settings; apply maintenance updates and product PTFs.

  • Create and maintain REXX and Assembler scripts.

  • Implement security and monitor z/OS/software to resolve issues proactively.

  • Provide support for z/OS planning, installations, and upgrades, including root cause analysis for system/product issues.

  • Support assigned ISV products, analyse performance concerns, consult with IT teams, and assist new product installs.

  • Participate in Disaster Recovery planning/tests; lead daily Ops meetings if no P1 incidents.

  • Identify and address problem trends.

  • Demonstrated knowledge: z/OS, Unix System Services, SMP/E, REXX, Java, VSAM, third-party products, BRMS, tape management, ATL/VTL.

  • Experience acting as technical lead on team projects.

  • Proficient in troubleshooting performance issues within z/OS environments.

  • Strong grasp of SMP/E, WLM, RMF, HCD, ISV products, REXX, Assembler, JCL.

  • Familiarity with VTAM/TCPIP network admin, ZOSMF/ZOWE, mainframe disks, replication, storage administration, SMS updates.

 

Preferred Technical and Professional Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or relevant field.

  • SME in MF ZOS system programming problem determination.

  • Technical guidance and support for high availability and disaster recovery enhancements.

  • Evaluate and recommend software changes to meet organisational needs.

  • Excellent troubleshooting and customer service.

  • Infrastructure/Application issue resolution for ZOS.
