Mobile Infrastructure Engineer — Mobile Workflows
Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.
Hey, g'day, mabuhay, kia ora, 你好, hallo, vítejte!
Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time-consuming and you're probably keen to find out what's on offer — so we'll get straight to the point.
Where and how you can work
Our flagship Sydney campus is uniquely Canva - an extension of our Surry Hills neighbourhood. It’s a thoughtfully designed space with plenty of room to collaborate, focus, and connect.
This role is based in Sydney, and we’re looking for someone who calls it home. Our hybrid way of working gives you the flexibility to work remotely, and to come together on campus for meaningful in-person collaboration and connection when it matters most. We trust our Canvanauts to choose the balance that empowers them and their team to achieve their goals.
At the moment, this role is focused on:
- Build and operate the shared mobile test infrastructure — CI/CD pipelines, simulator/emulator orchestration, and device farm (BrowserStack) integration.
- Develop and maintain the CLI and EMU developer tooling (xcrun, simctl, ADB and related) that underpins local and CI mobile workflows.
- Design and implement CI/CD quality gating infrastructure so automation tests run reliably and detect regressions proactively.
- Collaborate with Native Infra, Cross Platform and DevX teams to consolidate fragmented mobile workflows into a unified system.
- Build company-wide monitoring, triage, and early-warning systems for mobile development and testing failures.
- Contribute to defining, improving and codifying mobile infrastructure and workflow best practices across Canva.
- Rally knowledge sharing across mobile teams, mentoring less experienced engineers.
You're probably a match if:
We are looking for an experienced infrastructure engineer with a passion for developer tooling, build and test systems, and mobile platform reliability. Ideally you have experience building CI/CD pipelines, device or test infrastructure, or developer tools at scale.
- Strong foundations in computer science and software engineering practices.
- Proven expertise in build and CI/CD systems, with deep understanding of pipeline design, caching, and large-scale test execution.
- Experience with device farm solutions such as BrowserStack or similar cloud device testing platforms is essential.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code, containerisation, and orchestration, plus strong scripting skills (e.g. Python, Go, Bash, or TypeScript).
- Knowledge of mobile build pipelines and tooling (e.g. Fastlane, Gradle, Bazel) and device orchestration.
- Familiarity with native (iOS/Android) or cross-platform/hybrid development approaches (React Native, web-to-native bridges) is a plus.
- You can navigate through ambiguity and come up with the best technical solutions independently.
- You exemplify attention to detail and strategic thinking, writing reusable and testable code.
About the team
The Mobile Workflows team at Canva owns 3 major pieces: Mobile development tooling, Mobile Automation Testing Pipeline and Mobile quality strategy across Canva. We sit within the Mobile Platform subgroup and play a critical role in Canva's mobile products — we're empowered to make mobile development reliable, scalable and high-quality across the entire engineering organisation. Our work ensures that hundreds of product and platform teams can build confidently for iOS and Android.
About the role
You'll get hands-on experience building and refining mobile development workflows, test automation frameworks, and CI/CD quality gating for Android. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Android engineer who is passionate about developer experience, testing infrastructure, and enabling teams at scale. You'll work closely with cross-functional partners across Mobile Platform, DevX, and product teams to consolidate fragmented tools into a cohesive mobile workflows system.
