Project Lead / Technical Lead – Safety-Critical Embedded Systems

Role Overview

We are looking for a Project Lead / Technical Lead to lead the development of safety-critical embedded products involving both Embedded Software and Hardware. The candidate will be responsible for coordinating technical activities, guiding the engineering team, and ensuring that product development follows structured engineering processes aligned with the V-model and applicable functional safety standards such as IEC 61508 and ISO 26262.

The ideal candidate should combine strong technical leadership with solid project management practices, and should be capable of managing requirements, design, implementation, verification, validation, risk management, and compliance activities across the full product development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical execution of embedded software and hardware development projects.

  • Manage and coordinate cross-functional engineering teams including software, hardware, testing, safety, quality, and system engineering.

  • Ensure product development follows the V-model lifecycle, including requirements, architecture, design, implementation, integration, verification, and validation.

  • Support the definition, review, and traceability of system, hardware, and software requirements.

  • Ensure compliance with functional safety standards such as IEC 61508 and/or ISO 26262.

  • Coordinate safety-related activities including safety planning, hazard/risk analysis support, safety requirements, technical safety concept, verification, validation, and safety case preparation.

  • Review software and hardware architecture with respect to safety, reliability, testability, maintainability, and compliance.

  • Drive project planning, task estimation, progress tracking, risk management, issue resolution, and milestone delivery.

  • Ensure proper documentation, configuration management, change management, and requirements traceability.

  • Support technical reviews, design reviews, code reviews, test reviews, and safety reviews.

  • Interface with customers, internal stakeholders, suppliers, and assessment/audit teams when needed.

  • Identify project risks and technical gaps early and define mitigation actions.

  • Promote engineering best practices, process compliance, and continuous improvement within the team.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.

  • Strong experience in embedded systems product development.

  • Good understanding of both Embedded Software and Embedded Hardware development lifecycles.

  • Practical knowledge of the V-model for system, hardware, and software development.

  • Awareness of functional safety development according to IEC 61508 and/or ISO 26262.

  • Experience with requirements management, architecture design, verification, validation, and traceability.

  • Strong project management skills including planning, scheduling, risk management, issue tracking, and stakeholder communication.

  • Ability to lead technical discussions and make balanced decisions considering cost, quality, safety, timing, and technical constraints.

  • Good communication, leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in safety-critical domains such as automotive, industrial automation, energy systems, medical devices, rail, aerospace, or power electronics.

  • Experience with safety work products such as safety plan, HARA, risk analysis, FMEA, FMEDA, FTA, safety requirements, safety concept, verification plan, validation plan, and safety case.

  • Familiarity with embedded C/C++, RTOS, microcontrollers, communication protocols, diagnostics, and low-level drivers.

  • Familiarity with hardware design, schematics review, PCB review, component selection, reliability analysis, and hardware verification.

  • Experience with standards and practices such as MISRA C, ASPICE, ISO 21434, IEC 62443, or quality management systems.

  • Experience using tools for requirements management, issue tracking, version control, static analysis, testing, and configuration management.

  • PMP, Scrum Master, Functional Safety Engineer, or similar certification is a plus.
