Job Title
Engineering Manager - Commerce HubAbout your role:
At Fiserv, we are modernising a high-volume global payment processing platform — moving from a monolithic, batch-driven architecture to an event-driven microservices platform on AWS. This is a ground-up build: Confluent Cloud for event streaming, Aurora PostgreSQL for persistence, Kubernetes for compute, and a modern Java/Kotlin stack throughout.
As an Engineering Manager, you will lead one or more delivery teams through this modernisation — owning both the people and the delivery outcomes. This is not a people-management-only role. You will be deeply technical, able to participate in architecture and design discussions, challenge your teams on technical approach, and make sound engineering trade-offs. You will build high-performing teams that deliver production-quality software iteratively and at pace.
You believe AI fundamentally changes how engineering teams work, and you will embed AI-assisted development into your teams’ ways of working as a core capability, not an experiment.
What you’ll do:
- Lead and develop engineering teams — hiring, coaching, and retaining strong engineers while building a culture of ownership, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Own delivery outcomes — accountable for your teams shipping production-ready software incrementally, with clear integration milestones rather than big-bang releases.
- Participate in technical direction — engaging in architecture discussions, design reviews, and trade-off decisions with the credibility to challenge and contribute, not just facilitate.
- Drive engineering standards within your teams — ensuring TDD, CI/CD discipline, observability, and production readiness are non-negotiable, not aspirational.
- Remove blockers and create clarity — shielding teams from noise, resolving cross-team dependencies, and ensuring engineers have what they need to deliver.
- Collaborate across sites — working as a peer with engineering leads in Pune, ensuring shared ownership, consistent standards, and effective cross-site delivery.
- Foster AI-first engineering practices — ensuring your teams actively leverage AI tools to accelerate development, testing, and problem-solving.
- Partner with Principal Engineers and Domain Architects — translating architectural direction into deliverable work and ensuring teams adopt patterns effectively.
Experience you’ll need to have:
- Proven experience leading engineering teams delivering distributed systems — you have managed engineers and owned delivery, not just one or the other.
- Strong technical background in modern Java or Kotlin, microservices, and event-driven architectures — you can read the code, review the design, and spot when something is going wrong.
- Experience building and scaling teams — hiring, onboarding, developing engineers, and creating team structures that deliver.
- A track record of delivering software iteratively in complex environments — you understand vertical slicing, integration-first approaches, and how to keep momentum.
- Ability to engage credibly with architects and principal engineers on technical decisions — you don’t need to be the smartest engineer in the room, but you need to follow the conversation and ask the right questions.
- A conviction that AI-assisted engineering is transformative, with experience embedding AI tools into team workflows.
- Experience with agile delivery in practice — not process for its own sake, but pragmatic approaches that drive actual delivery.
Experience that would be great to have:
- Familiarity with payments, financial services, or high-volume transactional domains is a plus but not essential.
- Exposure to Confluent Cloud, AWS, Kubernetes, or GitLab CI is beneficial.
