Senior Director of Engineering, GCE Core Virtualization
Google Compute Engine (GCE) is at the heart of Google Cloud, providing the foundational compute power for countless customers, including those running demanding AI/ML and enterprise workloads. The Core Virtualization team is the engine driving GCE's performance, security, and innovation. As the Director of Engineering for GCE Core Virtualization, you will lead the teams responsible for the core hypervisor, memory management, live update capabilities, virtualization security, and the burgeoning Axion ARM-based compute business.
This is a critical leadership role where you will shape the future of GCE's virtualization stack, ensuring it remains the most performant, scalable, and secure public cloud offering. You will work on complex technical challenges in low-level systems, drive strategic architectural evolution, enhance security posture against sophisticated threats, and deliver features that minimize disruption for our most demanding customers. This is a unique opportunity to lead a highly specialized team, drive significant technical impact across Google Cloud, and contribute directly to the success of Google's core infrastructure and strategic initiatives like ARM.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.US: $364000 - $510000 (USD) + 40% bonus target + equity + benefits

Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
- 15 years of experience in software engineering leadership
Preferred qualifications:
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related field
- Experience with Google Cloud Platform or other major cloud provider
- Experience developing and operating large-scale infrastructure systems
- Experience in effectively dealing with customer escalations and driving resolutions to complex technical issues
