This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Full Stack Engineer (backend leaning) based in the United States.
This is a high-impact engineering role within an early-stage, venture-backed fintech environment focused on expanding access to financial tools for underserved populations. You will play a central role in designing, building, and scaling the backend systems that power core financial products used in production at scale. The role emphasizes ownership, speed, and pragmatic engineering decisions, with a strong focus on backend architecture and API development. You will work in a fast-moving, high-trust team where priorities evolve quickly and engineers are expected to operate with significant autonomy. The environment is deeply execution-oriented, with an emphasis on shipping frequently while maintaining strong reliability and performance standards. Accountabilities:
Own the design, development, deployment, and scaling of backend systems and infrastructure supporting core financial products in a fast-paced fintech environment.
- Build and maintain high-performance APIs and backend services that power customer-facing applications
- Design scalable cloud-native architectures using AWS and Node.js (TypeScript)
- Take full ownership of system reliability, performance, and long-term maintainability
- Ship production-ready code frequently while balancing speed with engineering rigor
- Define and promote backend engineering standards, patterns, and best practices across the team
- Make informed architectural decisions, weighing trade-offs between scalability, speed, and complexity
- Collaborate closely with product engineers and cross-functional stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions
- Continuously improve system design to support growth, resilience, and evolving product needs
Requirements:
This role requires strong backend engineering expertise, deep systems thinking, and the ability to thrive in a high-ownership, fast-moving environment.
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with a strong backend focus
- Experience building and scaling production systems using Node.js and AWS
- Strong proficiency in TypeScript (preferred)
- Proven ability to design reliable, scalable, and high-performance distributed systems
- Deep understanding of system architecture, performance optimization, and backend fundamentals
- Strong ownership mindset with the ability to drive projects independently from concept to production
- Comfort working in ambiguous environments and making decisions with incomplete information
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively across technical and product teams
- Self-starter mentality with a bias toward execution and delivery
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering velocity while maintaining code quality
