About Position
The Lead engineer in COE is responsible for execution of complete project as a lead of Turbine mechanical design with support of team & would be responsible for key deliverables & timely execution of projects while maintaining first pass yield. The candidate shall have good experience in design of large hydro projects with expertise in hydro Turbine design domain. The candidate shall actively assess new ideas & technologies for enabling product cost-out, able to resolve any technical issue during execution of project with interfacing functions, COEs & site crew.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
1. Primary Skills: Basic design and calculation of hydro turbine components, piping, and auxiliaries for hydroelectric power station projects.
2. Nature of Products / Projects: Hydro turbine systems.
3. Partnership / Collaboration: Work closely with consulting engineers, detail design teams, customers, and cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality, and site teams.
4. Daily Responsibility 1: Lead basic design and calculation activities, including sizing of components using analytical calculations and GE Vernova tools, as well as detailed drawing release for the respective packages. Also responsible for monitoring, controlling, planning, and reviewing these activities.
5. Daily Responsibility 2: Leverage technical expertise and experience to resolve business problems in collaboration with customers, manufacturing, sourcing, and field support teams. Drive issue resolution and prompt corrective actions for design-related causes such as NCRs and SDRs. Lead thorough technical root cause analysis of field failures and identify design-related corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
6. Major Responsibilities
- Adapt to emerging technologies and solutions and transfer know-how to the COE team.
- Lead and deliver NPI, cost-out programs, and should-cost initiatives in COE; actively evaluate new ideas and technologies for product cost reduction.
- Implement lessons learned from fleet issues and supplier quality issues into new designs, with a focus on design robustness.
- Develop design practices and maintain technical guidelines.
7. Organizational Responsibilities: Ensure compliance with EHS, policies, quality standards, lean principles, kaizen, and related organizational requirements.
8. Personal Responsibilities: Demonstrate collaboration with peers from other functions, active participation in events, humility, transparency, focus, and integrity.

Required Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.Experience
Minimum 10 years and maximum 15 years of relevant experience, including at least 6 years of field experience in Hydro or Heavy Machinery, with strong exposure to basic design, sizing, and calculation.Tools Expertise
Hands-on experience with analytical calculations and design tools such as AutoCAD, UGNX, and similar software required for the role.Preferred Industry Experience
Experience in the power sector and/or large EPC organizations is preferred.Language Skills
Strong command of both written and spoken English is mandatory for effective management of global stakeholders and customers.
Desired Characteristics
- Additional knowledge of tools such as Ansys and Corella is not mandatory but would be an advantage.
