The Occupational Health Service Line Development Physician is a specialized clinical leader responsible for designing, implementing, and expanding occupational health programs within a hospital system, clinic or private organization. This role integrates clinical expertise with business strategy, regulatory compliance, and workplace safety initiatives to promote and maintain the physical, mental, and social well-being of employees.

The physician focuses on preventing, diagnosing, and managing work-related injuries and illnesses, while supporting organizational goals such as reducing workplace risk, improving productivity, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.

These physicians improve employer bottom lines by reducing injury downtime, managing workers' compensation costs, and boosting employee productivity through preventative care and efficient return-to-work strategies.

Education/Training

  • Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution

Licenses/Certification:

  • Board certification or eligibility in Occupational Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Family Medicine
  • Board certification in Occupational and Environmental Medicine (preferred)
  • Active and unrestricted MA medical license

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of occupational health regulations and workplace safety standards
  • Expertise in both clinical care and program development/administration
  • Excellent diagnostic and clinical decision-making abilities
  • Strong business acumen and ability to grow service lines
  • Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and documentation skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment

Responsibilities:

  • Provide medical evaluations and treatment for work-related injuries and illnesses among hospital staff
  • Conduct pre-employment, return-to-work, and fitness-for-duty examinations
  • Develop and implement occupational health programs, policies, and procedures
  • Monitor and manage employee exposure to occupational hazards, including biological, chemical, and physical risks
  • Collaborate with infection control, HR, and safety teams to prevent workplace incidents
  • Lead vaccination and immunization programs for healthcare personnel
  • Interpret and comply with OSHA, CDC, and other regulatory guidelines
  • Oversee workplace health surveillance programs (e.g., TB testing, respiratory fit testing)
  • Provide guidance on ergonomics and workplace accommodations
  • Participate in incident investigations and recommend corrective actions
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee health records
  • Educate staff on occupational health risks and preventive strategies

Salary Range: $196,992.72-$313,150.49

Salary Range Details

The pay range displayed on each job posting reflects the anticipated range for new hires. A successful candidate’s actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate’s work history, experience, skill set, and education. This is not inclusive of the value Sturdy Health’s benefits package (if applicable), which includes among other benefits, healthcare/dental/vision and retirement. For annual salaries this is based on full-time employment.
