Position Overview
Reporting to the Marketing Director, the Training Manager will lead the strategy, planning, localization, and execution of product and retail excellence training initiatives across Diptyque Japan.
As a key member of the Marketing team, this role is responsible for fostering a culture of learning and excellence that empowers retail teams to deliver exceptional client experiences. The successful candidate will champion product expertise, storytelling, service rituals, and luxury behaviors while ensuring that Diptyque's global standards are interpreted thoughtfully and authentically within the Japanese market.
This position requires a leader who not only understands the codes of luxury but is also capable of embodying them, coaching others with confidence, and influencing stakeholders across all levels of the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Training Strategy, Planning & Execution
- Develop and execute annual training strategies aligned with business priorities and brand objectives.
- Lead the planning, localization, and delivery of product knowledge and retail excellence training programs for retail teams across Japan.
- Translate global training materials into engaging learning experiences tailored to the Japanese market while preserving the essence of the Diptyque brand.
- Ensure consistency and excellence in product storytelling, client engagement techniques, and brand communication.
- Drive onboarding and induction programs that accelerate knowledge retention, confidence, and performance.
Retail Excellence & Field Coaching
- Design and implement field coaching initiatives and continuous learning plans throughout the year.
- Conduct regular boutique visits to observe, coach, and elevate client experience standards.
- Reinforce Diptyque service rituals and luxury selling behaviors across all retail touchpoints.
- Coach teams and Store Managers on grooming, professional presence, and behaviors that reflect the Maison's standards of excellence.
- Identify development opportunities and provide clear, constructive direction to strengthen retail capabilities.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, develop, and inspire the local Training team.
- Establish objectives and development plans to enhance team performance and capability.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, coaching, and continuous improvement.
- Provide guidance with confidence and clarity, even in challenging situations, to maintain high standards across the organization.
Data Analysis & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Analyze training-related KPIs and insights from mystery shopping programs, client experience surveys, and other relevant data sources.
- Translate findings into actionable development plans and measurable initiatives.
- Monitor training effectiveness and continuously refine programs based on business needs and market feedback.
- Manage training budgets effectively within approved guidelines.
- Partner closely with Retail, Marketing, and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure alignment and execution excellence.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
- Minimum 8 years of professional experience in Training, Learning & Development, or Retail Capability Development.
- Proven experience designing and facilitating training programs independently and influencing diverse stakeholder groups.
- Demonstrated ability to coach leaders and retail teams with confidence, providing clear direction while maintaining strong relationships.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify opportunities, and translate insights into concrete action plans.
- Native-level proficiency in Japanese, both written and spoken, with exceptional communication and localization capabilities.
- Business-level English proficiency, including the ability to communicate effectively and advocate for local perspectives in global discussions.
- Willingness and flexibility to travel domestically on a regular basis.
Preferred
- Experience within the fragrance, beauty, or luxury industries.
- Experience delivering retail excellence initiatives in premium or luxury environments.
- Understanding of Japanese consumer expectations and the ability to adapt global concepts appropriately for the local market.
- Experience managing and developing team members.
