Legal Specialist, Business Counsel

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Legal Specialist, Business Counsel based in Canada.

This role sits at the intersection of law, healthcare innovation, and commercial execution, supporting a fast-paced, highly regulated environment where legal precision directly enables better patient outcomes. You will act as a key legal partner to business, marketing, and operational teams, ensuring that commercial activities are both compliant and practically executable. The position involves reviewing and guiding marketing claims, supporting contract processes, and helping teams navigate complex regulatory frameworks with clarity and speed. You will collaborate closely with legal, regulatory, privacy, IP, and compliance stakeholders across multiple business units. A strong focus of the role is enabling business momentum while proactively identifying and mitigating legal risks. You will also contribute to building scalable legal processes, tools, and training materials that improve consistency across the organization. This is a highly cross-functional role where legal expertise directly supports innovation in healthcare solutions.

Accountabilities:

  • Provide day-to-day legal and business-facing support to commercial, marketing, and operational teams, translating legal requirements into clear, actionable guidance.
  • Act as a first-line reviewer to identify legal and compliance risks in commercial activities, escalating complex matters to counsel when required.
  • Support marketing claims review processes and coordinate with regulatory, privacy, IP, quality, and compliance teams to ensure alignment.
  • Assist with contract-related workflows, helping ensure efficient drafting, review, and execution in collaboration with legal counsel and stakeholders.
  • Maintain and improve legal templates, processes, and documentation to support scalability and operational efficiency.
  • Deliver training and guidance to internal teams on legal concepts, claims substantiation, and compliant marketing practices.
  • Coordinate across multiple legal and compliance functions to ensure timely resolution of business needs and regulatory alignment.
  • Manage competing priorities across multiple legal workflows in a fast-paced, business-facing environment.
  • Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent legal/paralegal certification with 7+ years of experience in legal, compliance, regulatory, or contracts support roles.
    • 5+ years of experience in a legal specialist, senior paralegal, or similar role within a corporate or regulated environment.
    • Experience supporting marketing review, claims substantiation, contract administration, or operational legal processes.
    • Strong understanding of legal and compliance workflows in regulated industries such as healthcare or life sciences (preferred).
    • Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and manage multiple complex workflows simultaneously.
    • Strong judgment with the ability to identify, assess, and escalate legal and compliance risks appropriately.
    • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience working cross-functionally with legal and business teams.
    • Experience developing legal training materials, guidance documents, or standardized processes is an asset.
    • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and process improvement mindset.
