BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently looking for “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as Process Quality Engineering Supervisor at our production plant in Viana, Portugal.

The Process Quality Engineering Supervisor is responsible for leading the shift from reactive quality to predictive and preventive quality management at shopfloor level, ensuring stable, capable, and compliant processes.

This role ensures the deployment of Process Quality standards (Control Plans Adherance, SPC and Process Capabilities, Layered Process Audits, Nonconformance Management and Reaction Plans) while governing problem solving, data-driven decision-making, and systemic prevention.

The Supervisor plays a key role in embedding quality into operations, ensuring that quality is owned by production and supported through strong process discipline, early risk detection, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities:

People Leadership & Team Development

  • Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of Process Quality Engineers, ensuring priorities are clear, execution is consistent, and deliverables meet standards
  • Develop the team’s technical and problem-solving capability through coaching, mentoring and on-the-job training; promote best practices and standard work.
  • Ensure production teams and relevant departments are trained and guided on problem-solving techniques and best quality practices

Prevention & Systemic Quality Improvement

  • Drive alignment between PFMEA, Control Plans and SPC, ensuring coherence and effectiveness of process controls
  • Ensure lessons learned are captured, standardized and deployed across lines, products and processes
  • Lead initiatives to eliminate systemic risks, not only local defects
  • Support transition from containment → prevention → predictive quality

Governance of Problem Solving & Corrective Action Robustness

  • Lead and coach the team on high-quality 8D problem solving, ensuring deep root cause analysis and evidence-based actions
  • Ensure corrective actions are: Robust, Systemic (replicated across similar processes), Verified for effectiveness
  • Guarantee fast containment (<24–48h) and disciplined follow-up

Data-Driven Quality Management & Early Detection

  • Ensure availability and use of leading indicators (process instability, trends, weak signals)
  • Drive data analysis and trend monitoring to identify risks before customer impact
  • Promote use of data for: Decision-making, Escalation, Continuous improvement

Audits, Compliance & Management System Support

  • Conduct internal quality audits and support external audits (customer and certification), ensuring readiness and follow-up of findings.
  • Ensure production processes comply with relevant standards (e.g., ISO/IATF16949) through consistent execution and verification on the shopfloor.

Requirements & Competencies:

  • Degree or Master’s in Engineering (or related technical area).
  • Five or more years of experience in Plant/Customer/Process Quality Engineering (automotive preferred).
  • Hands-on experience with statistical analysis and quality core tools (SPC, MSA/R&R, FMEA, Control Plans, APQP/PPAP)
  • Strong knowledge of ISO/IATF16949 requirements and shopfloor process control practices.
  • Solid knowledge in manufacturing problem solving (8D) and manufacturing processes.
  • Data analysis/statistical methods; ability to interpret technical documentation and translate it into shopfloor execution (control plan discipline).
  • Proficiency with MS Office; Minitab is a plus.
  • Fluent in English
  • Fluent in Portuguese
