To support the Safety & Security team, we have an exciting opportunity for an Health and Safety Specialist.
Who you are:
As a Health and Safety Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring the overall safety of warehouse personnel, equipment, environment and operating according to H&S guidelines. You will play a crucial role in identifying potential hazards, developing and implementing safety protocols and procedures, conducting safety training, and promoting a culture of safety within the organization.
The Health and Safety Specialist will also ensure audit findings are escalated and recommended actions are communicated to relevant stakeholders. In close collaboration with the operations team, you will lead cooperative efforts to ensure the site achieves all safety metrics. Additionally, you will engage with operations leaders to ensure that safety and operations strategies are effectively integrated and implemented. By ensuring compliance with safety measures, the Health and Safety Specialist plays a critical role in upholding the company's standards and ensuring the well-being of all employees.
What you’ll do:
- Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with relevant safety regulations.
- Support the completion of the RI&E action plan by working closely with stakeholders and keeping up-to-date records of the compliance status.
- Implement safety policies, standards, and procedures to minimize the risk of accidents, injuries, and property damage.
- Coordinate and deliver safety training programs to educate employees on standard methodologies and ensure their understanding and compliance.
- Provide expert mentorship and advice to warehouse staff on safety matters, including safe handling of equipment, accurate use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and ergonomics.
- Lead cooperative efforts with the operations team to ensure that the site achieves all safety metrics.
- Interact with operation leaders to ensure safety and operations strategies are properly integrated and implemented.
- Respond to all safety-related incidents.
- Investigate accidents and incidents, documenting findings, root causes, and recommendations for preventive measures. Ensure all incidents are properly reported in the company’s incident management system.
- Support the activities of the Emergency Response Team (BHV) and participate in any planned training and exercises.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and changes in safety regulations, recommending vital updates to the safety program as needed.
- Engage and collaborate with the Safety & Security team in all key DC activities, as necessary.
- Other duties as required and assigned.
You’ll need to have:
- You have broad experience in Safety Management, know the laws and regulations and translate your vision and policy into practical working methods.
- Relevant qualification in Health & Safety.
- Proven experience in warehouse safety or a similar role, preferably in a fast-paced distribution environment.
- Ability to work on own initiative and possess strong interpersonal and communications skills.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify potential risks and develop effective preventive measures.
- Ability to deliver engaging safety training sessions and facilitate discussions on safety-related topics.
- Detail-oriented attitude and strong problem-solving skills to investigate incidents and implement corrective actions.
- Proficiency in using MS Office tools to track safety performance and generate reports.
- Fluent in Dutch and English.
We’d love to see:
- Experience in implementing and maintaining behavior-based safety culture
- Experience in team (and/or project) management
- CPR and First Aid Certified & previous BHV training would be a nice to have
