Payment Risk Operations Analyst

Adyen · Amsterdam

This is Adyen

Adyen provides payments, data, and financial products in a single solution for customers like Meta, Uber, H&M, and Microsoft - making us the financial technology platform of choice. At Adyen, everything we do is engineered for ambition.

For our teams, we create an environment with opportunities for our people to succeed, backed by the culture and support to ensure they are enabled to truly own their careers. We are motivated individuals who tackle unique technical challenges at scale and solve them as a team. Together, we deliver innovative and ethical solutions that help businesses achieve their ambitions faster.

Payment Risk Operations Analyst

We are looking for an Associate Analyst to join our Payments Risk Operations team. This role is ideal for professionals who are curious and energetic and wish to navigate complex cases, manage high-stakes long-term projects, and balance compliance requirements with a customer-centric mindset.

In this role you will be contributing to our sustainable business growth, ensuring that both Adyen and its customers remain aligned with Payment Networks’ (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) regulations and our internal risk appetite. You will act as a partner to our global customers, educating them on compliance landscapes while proactively identifying and mitigating emerging threats across the full payment ecosystem. In addition, you will partner closely with our internal Compliance, Sales, Account Management, Product and Partnership teams to optimize internal processes and develop scalable solutions that protect our portfolio. By translating complex requirements into actionable strategies, you will be responsible for mitigating non-compliance losses and driving operational excellence at scale.

What You’ll Do

  • Acquiring & Issuing: Work across both the acquiring and issuing domains, applying network rules and risk principles holistically to support end-to-end payment flows and ensure consistent compliance across the full transaction lifecycle.
  • Risk & Compliance Ownership: Take ownership of risk mitigation by championing a proactive risk culture within the first line of defense. You will achieve this through consistent engagement, training, and cross-functional collaboration with internal stakeholders.
  • Industry Expertise: Stay up to date on Payment Network requirements and Adyen’s product evolution. You will translate these updates into operational strategies and provide expert guidance to both customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Portfolio Monitoring: Design and implement scalable processes to monitor our customers’ portfolio, ensuring continuous alignment with Payment Networks.
  • Operational Excellence: Systematically drive process improvements to ensure that high-quality outcomes and risk mitigation scale alongside our business growth both for Adyen and its customers.
  • Non-compliance Case Management: Manage non-compliance notifications from networks by collaborating with customers, Account Management, Product and Partnerships teams to resolve issues with speed and precision.
  • Data Security: Act as a subject matter expert on PCI DSS. You will manage data security incidents from a network perspective and handle complex inquiries for both internal and external partners.

Who You Are

  • You have 1+ years of experience in a fast-paced environment; experience in acquiring or issuing is a significant plus.
  • You are detail-oriented and organized, with a natural ability to use data to solve problems. You show sound judgment and flexibility, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and change course swiftly when needed.
  • You possess an ‘ownership’ mindset to run your area of responsibility, setting your own direction after guidance.
  • You have a solid understanding of operational principles (or the curiosity to master them quickly) and have had experience in alert queue management such as Salesforce or similar.
  • You can translate complex problems and payment network regulations into clear, actionable steps for varying stakeholders and communicate them accordingly.
  • You possess excellent people skills and can build strong relationships with stakeholders across different cultures, disciplines, and seniority levels.
  • You approach every challenge with a ‘customer-first’ lens, ensuring that our compliance requirements are implemented while delivering the best possible experience for our customers.
  • You are comfortable stepping into a Project Manager role when collaborating with cross-functional teams.
