Vice President of Operations - Digital Agency

This is a senior executive leadership role at the heart of a fast-growing digital agency delivering complex web platforms and applications for mission-driven organizations. You will act as the operational right hand to the CEO, owning delivery performance while shaping the systems, structure, and culture that support long-term scale. The role blends strategic leadership with hands-on operational control across project delivery, people operations, and business execution. You will be responsible for ensuring client work is delivered on time, on budget, and at high quality while continuously improving margins and operational efficiency. Beyond delivery, you will help build the internal engine of the organization—processes, talent systems, and leadership cadence—that enables sustainable growth. This is a high-impact role for a leader who thrives in complex, fast-moving agency environments and wants to directly influence both performance and culture.

Accountabilities

In this role, you will own the operational backbone of the organization, with primary responsibility for delivery performance and internal operational excellence. You will ensure the business runs efficiently while scaling delivery capabilities and supporting revenue growth.

  • Lead end-to-end delivery operations for complex website and web application projects, ensuring quality, profitability, and on-time execution
  • Oversee resource planning, capacity management, and project staffing to align demand with delivery capability
  • Establish and manage operating rhythms (planning cycles, leadership meetings, KPI tracking, and execution frameworks such as EOS)
  • Build and optimize internal systems, workflows, and processes to improve operational efficiency and scalability
  • Own talent operations including recruiting, onboarding, performance management, and leadership development
  • Track and manage key operational metrics including utilization, margins, retention, and pipeline health
  • Support and guide revenue-facing functions (sales, estimating, and business development) as a secondary responsibility
  • Partner directly with executive leadership to translate strategy into execution and accountability across the organization
  • Requirements

    This role requires a seasoned operations leader with deep experience in digital agencies or software delivery environments, especially those building complex websites or applications. Strong leadership, execution discipline, and agency delivery expertise are essential.

    • 10+ years of operations or senior leadership experience, including direct reporting to executive leadership (CEO/COO level)
    • Significant experience within a digital agency, web studio, or software consultancy delivering client-based web applications
    • Proven track record leading delivery teams responsible for websites or web apps (Drupal, WordPress, or similar platforms preferred)
    • Experience managing managers and building scalable operational structures across multiple teams
    • Strong understanding of project delivery lifecycle, resource planning, margins, and agency financial levers
    • Demonstrated ability to design and implement operational systems and ensure adoption across teams
    • Exposure to revenue operations (sales, proposals, estimating, or business development) in an agency context
    • Strong leadership, communication, and people development skills with a high accountability mindset
    • Experience in organizations of approximately 20–150 employees is strongly preferred
