This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Transmission Planning Manager in Canada.

This role sits at the intersection of advanced power system engineering, grid modernization, and client-facing leadership within the evolving North American energy landscape. You will lead a team responsible for transmission planning and interconnection studies that directly influence grid reliability, renewable integration, and long-term infrastructure investments. Working with utilities, independent power producers, and system operators, you will oversee complex technical analyses while ensuring high-quality delivery and regulatory alignment. This position blends hands-on technical expertise with strategic project and team leadership. You will play a key role in shaping study outcomes that support real-world energy decisions across multiple jurisdictions. In a highly collaborative environment, you will also contribute to business growth, client relationships, and technical excellence across concurrent projects.

Accountabilities:

  • Lead and mentor a team of transmission planning and interconnection study engineers, ensuring technical excellence, professional development, and strong delivery performance across all engagements.
  • Oversee and deliver complex power system studies, including load flow, voltage stability, transient stability, and short-circuit analyses supporting interconnection and reliability assessments.
  • Manage client relationships and act as a key technical advisor to utilities, ISOs, and independent power producers, translating complex findings into actionable insights for decision-makers.
  • Supervise project execution, including scope definition, budgeting, staffing, scheduling, and risk management across multiple concurrent engineering studies.
  • Review and validate technical deliverables to ensure accuracy, compliance with industry standards, and alignment with client requirements and regulatory frameworks.
  • Contribute hands-on to high-impact or complex studies, supporting the team in solving advanced power system challenges.
  • Prepare and present progress reports, technical findings, and strategic recommendations to executive stakeholders and external clients.
  • Support business development activities by shaping proposals, defining project scopes, and identifying new client opportunities in the energy sector.
  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes, study methodologies, and resource optimization across projects.
  • Collaborate with global teams to ensure consistency, scalability, and quality in engineering delivery across regions.
  • Requirements

    • 10+ years of experience in power systems analysis, including at least 3+ years in a leadership or client-facing technical role.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Master’s or PhD in power systems is an asset).
    • Strong expertise in transmission planning and simulation tools such as PSS/E, with additional experience in tools like PSLF, DigSILENT, TARA, or DSA Tools.
    • Proven experience conducting and leading studies such as stability analysis, interconnection studies, congestion analysis, or feasibility assessments across ISOs (e.g., MISO, CAISO, PJM, SPP).
    • Deep understanding of power system components, including generators, inverters, HVDC systems, and FACTS devices (SVC, STATCOM, TCSC, VSC).
    • Solid knowledge of interconnection processes, reliability standards, substation design, and protection and control systems.
    • Demonstrated ability to manage client relationships and deliver complex technical projects on time and within budget.
    • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for both technical and executive audiences.
    • Experience with Python or IPLAN is considered an asset.
    • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills in ambiguous and fast-paced environments.
