Job Description
The Sr. Product Manager is responsible for directing product strategy from conception and definition through implementation. This role identifies new business and market opportunities and creates appropriate business plans. Responsibilities include determining the market for the product, understanding marketplace requirements, and ensuring consistency of new products with the organization’s image and objectives. The Sr. Product Manager functions as a central resource, interacting with systems, marketing, and sales during the product development stage, and formulates and executes long-term plans for cost and profit control. The role also promotes the use of new technologies and industry-leading trends.
All roles require digital fluency, including the ability to work with emerging technologies such as Generative AI tools (e.g. ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot) to support everyday work.
Key Responsibilities:
Product & Solution Strategy
- Develop and execute solution strategies aligned with Visa’s business priorities, market trends, and client needs.
- Identify opportunities to expand Visa’s products and solutions across issuing, acquiring, digital payments, value-added services, risk, fraud, data, loyalty, and commercial payments.
- Translate market insights, client feedback, and competitive intelligence into actionable product and solution roadmaps.
- Support the prioritization of product initiatives based on commercial potential, strategic relevance, client demand, and operational feasibility.
- Contribute to annual planning, business cases, go-to-market strategies, and investment recommendations.
Product Commercialization & Go-to-Market
- Lead or support the commercialization of Visa products and solutions across target client segments and markets.
- Develop compelling client propositions, sales enablement materials, pricing inputs, implementation playbooks, and business cases.
- Partner with Sales and Account Executives to position solutions effectively with banks, fintechs, merchants, processors, acquirers, government entities, and other ecosystem partners.
- Support client pitches, workshops, solution design sessions, and executive-level presentations.
- Track adoption, revenue performance, client engagement, and market feedback to refine go-to-market execution.
Client & Market Engagement
- Serve as a subject matter expert for assigned products, solutions, or market segments.
- Engage directly with clients to understand business challenges, strategic priorities, operational requirements, and technology constraints.
- Design tailored solution approaches that leverage Visa’s capabilities and partner ecosystem.
- Build strong relationships with key client stakeholders and internal client-facing teams.
- Represent the Products & Solutions function in client meetings, industry forums, and cross-functional working groups as needed.
Product Delivery & Lifecycle Management
- Collaborate with regional and global product teams to adapt, launch, and enhance Visa solutions for local market needs.
- Manage product requirements, launch plans, implementation timelines, dependencies, risks, and post-launch performance.
- Coordinate with Technology, Operations, Client Services, Legal, Compliance, Risk, and Finance to ensure successful execution.
- Monitor product lifecycle performance and recommend enhancements, repositioning, or retirement where appropriate.
- Ensure solutions comply with regulatory requirements, network rules, security standards, and Visa governance processes.
Business Performance & Analytics
- Define and monitor key performance indicators for product adoption, transaction growth, revenue contribution, client activation, and customer impact.
- Use data and analytics to assess solution performance, identify growth opportunities, and support executive decision-making.
- Prepare management reports, dashboards, business reviews, and strategic updates.
- Conduct market sizing, competitive benchmarking, and client opportunity analysis.
- Recommend actions to improve product profitability, scalability, and market relevance.
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Lead cross-functional initiatives involving Product, Sales, Client Services, Marketing, Technology, Risk, Legal, Strategy, and Finance teams.
- Influence stakeholders without direct authority to drive alignment and execution.
- Manage competing priorities across multiple products, markets, clients, and internal teams.
- Support change management, training, and knowledge-sharing initiatives related to product launches or solution enhancements.
- Mentor junior team members and contribute to building product management and solution consulting capabilities within the organization.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- 8 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor's Degree or at least 5 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 2 years of work experience with a PhD.
- Experience in roles such as product manager, product owner, business process analyst, or sales operations.
- Experience in applying Agile principles across design, development, testing, and product management.
- Experience in developing software capabilities to support sales, service, or customer relationship management functions.
- Experience in multi-tasking, organizing, managing, and implementing complex projects directly or through supervision.
- Experience in cross-functional collaboration with systems, marketing, and sales teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 9 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor's Degree or 7 or more relevant years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 3 or more years of experience with a PhD.
- Agile certifications such as CSM and CSPO, or their equivalent.
- Experience in identifying, assessing, and managing tradeoffs in product development.
- Experience in identifying points of failure and formulating error-handling approaches for product resiliency.
