This role is based in Ottawa and requires a minimum of three days per week onsite.

How You Will Contribute:

As a Quality Assurance Engineer at Ciena, you will play a key role in testing software for industry-leading Data Center PON Solutions. You will work closely with the design team to develop and test software for Ciena’s next generation Data Center Out-of-band Management (DCOM) solutions built on Passive Optical Networking (PON) technology targeting AI hyperscalers and neoscalers. Your contributions will focus on enhancing Ciena’s DCOM PON management and control software running on embedded Linux platforms.
  • Quality Assurance of the next generation of Routing and Switching software solutions supporting 10Gbps PON network technologies and applications for Layer 2/3 data networking on a wide range of switch and host platforms.
  • Review system requirements & functional specifications to ensure alignment with project goals.
  • Develop comprehensive test plans and test cases for functional-level software testing.
  • Identify test requirements, configure lab environments, and prepare for test execution.
  • Create Python test scripts using existing automation infrastructure to streamline testing processes.
  • Execute test cases and report results with artifacts using Test Rail to maintain traceability.
  • Collaborate closely with multi-disciplinary teams throughout the software release cycle to ensure compliance and thorough testing.
  • Debug and isolate issues in collaboration with the design team to facilitate quick resolution.
  • Document test results, issues identified and generate weekly progress and status reports.

The Must Haves:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.
  • Understanding of L2/L3
  • Demonstrated proficiency with scripting using Python.
  • Familiarity with traffic generators such as Ixia and/or Spirent Test Centre.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary teams, including Development primes and Product Line Architects.

Assets:

  • Experience in/with Telecom and/or IP networks.
  • Knowledge of Passive Optical Network (PON) technologies.
  • MS Office products such as excel and power point.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • A curious mind and ambition to learn.

The annual pay range for this position is C$62,100 - C$99,300. 

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.

Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
