This role sits at the intersection of mathematics education, assessment design, and instructional quality, contributing directly to the development of large-scale standardized testing programs used across K–12 education systems. You will help design, review, and refine high-quality math assessment items that accurately measure student understanding and support data-driven instruction. Working within a collaborative, research-informed environment, you will partner with educators, psychometric teams, and content specialists to ensure rigor, fairness, and clarity across all assessments. The role has a strong impact on how student learning is measured nationwide, influencing curriculum decisions and instructional strategies. You will also play a key role in aligning test content with state standards and evolving educational expectations. This is a highly collaborative, detail-oriented position that blends content expertise with test development leadership

Accountabilities:

  • Develop high-quality math assessment items based on state item specifications and curriculum frameworks
  • Conduct independent content and preliminary reviews to ensure accuracy, clarity, and alignment with standards
  • Lead educator review sessions, rubric validation meetings, data reviews, and standard-setting workshops
  • Translate assessment blueprints into structured item development plans and manage item pool creation
  • Oversee math item development for assigned projects, ensuring consistency and quality across deliverables
  • Communicate directly with state clients and external stakeholders regarding assessment design and implementation
  • Serve as a content or team lead on projects, providing guidance and oversight to internal teams
  • Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Mathematics, or related field with 5–8 years of experience in math assessment or education, or Master’s degree with 3–6 years of relevant experience
    • Strong understanding of U.S. K–12 education standards and assessment systems
    • Proven experience in test development, item writing, or curriculum-aligned assessment design
    • Excellent analytical skills with strong attention to detail and conceptual thinking ability
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently when needed
    • Strong collaboration and facilitation skills, especially in educator-facing meetings and review sessions
    • Willingness to travel 1–8 weeks per year for project-related meetings and workshops
