Job Description:

Intel is seeking a Supply Chain Engineer to support direct materials management in the semiconductor assembly and test environment. This role is responsible for ensuring the technical readiness, quality and qualification of incoming materials used in backend manufacturing including substrates, integrated heat spreaders (IHS), stiffeners, epoxy, and related materials.

The candidate will partner with Supplier Materials Engineering (SME), Materials Quality and Reliability Engineering (MQRE), Factory Module Engineering (ME) and supplier teams to ensure materials meet technical specifications, reliability requirements and production readiness. This role will drive technical issue resolution, support new product introduction (NPI), and contribute to quality, yield and cost improvement initiatives that enable efficient and predictable manufacturing operations.

As senior SCE, the candidate is expected to

  • Demonstrate strong leadership by coaching, mentoring and developing junior SCEs.

  • Drive VF-wide improvements through standardization, process optimization and best-practice sharing.

  • Serve as a role model for junior SCEs by consistently showcasing excellence in data analytics, problem-solving, and execution.

  • Contribute effectively across organizations, building strong partnerships and influencing outcomes beyond the local team.

  • Lead by example in delivering high-quality results, fostering collaboration and promoting a culture of continuous improvement.

  • Act as a senior technical resource with broad domain expertise in substrates, direct materials and assembly-test process interactions involving materials.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own incoming direct materials technical readiness for assigned materials in the assembly and test environment, ensuring materials meet defined technical specifications, quality requirements, and reliability expectations.

  • Work with SME, MQRE, and ME teams to support material evaluation, qualification, and readiness for NPI and high-volume manufacturing (HVM), and act as the technical interface for direct material-related issues in the factory.

  • Lead or support investigations, coordinate cross-functional actions, and drive timely closure of technical issues to minimize impact to production, yield, and delivery.

  • Support MRB/ excursion activities and material disposition decisions through data-driven analysis and structured problem solving.

  • Support management of direct materials quality excursions, including containment, risk assessment, root cause analysis and corrective/ preventive actions implementation.

  • Partner with SME and MQRE to drive 8D problem solving, failure analysis, and reliability validation as needed, and contribute to quality improvement, yield improvement and cost optimization initiatives to ensure sustained material performance and product reliability.

  • Support supplier qualification, validation, and engineering change activities for direct materials.

  • Participate in materials change control processes to ensure controlled, risk-managed implementation of supplier or material changes, and evaluate supplier process changes to support actions addressing quality, yield, reliability, and cost opportunities.

  • Support supplier, customer, internal and quality management system audits as required, and assist in maintaining audit readiness, technical documentation and closure of findings.

  • Apply structured problem-solving methodologies, including 8D, root cause analysis, Pareto analysis and DOE.

  • Use tools such as SAP, JMP, Power BI, or equivalent systems to analyse material performance, track issues and support decision-making.

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, standardization, and cost reduction across the supply chain.

Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience: Bachelor's or Masters degree in Materials Science, Engineering, or a related field, with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in semiconductor or manufacturing environments. Experience in backend assembly, packaging, or high-volume production is preferred.

  • Strong understanding of material properties, including thermal and mechanical behavior. Knowledge of substrates, integrated heat spreaders (IHS), stiffeners, epoxy, and assembly packaging interactions.

  • Working knowledge of manufacturing operations and material interactions with equipment and processes. Experience with structured problem-solving methodologies such as 8D, RCA, CAPA, and DOE.

  • Ability to analyze technical issues, develop recommendations, and drive closure.

  • Experience with SAP and materials management systems for tracking, traceability, and issue management.

  • Proficiency with analytical tools such as JMP, Power BI, or equivalent.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across engineering, manufacturing, quality and supplier teams. Ability to influence stakeholders through data, technical expertise and collaborative problem solving.

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced factory environment with multiple priorities.
