Logistics Analyst - Transportation & Routing
Who are we looking for…
We are seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented logistics professional who thrives in a fast-paced, operational environment. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience in transportation planning, route optimization, and system-driven decision-making, with a strong aptitude to grow into a more senior, national-level role.
This role requires strong cross-functional collaboration, a proactive mindset, and the ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable improvements across a delivery and collection network.
Role Overview
The Logistics Analyst – Transportation & Routing is responsible for designing, analyzing, and optimizing daily transportation routes across Daniels’ delivery and collection network to drive service reliability, cost efficiency, and operational performance.
While based in Brampton and supporting Daniels’ largest market in Ontario, this position operates with a national scope—supporting transportation routing and optimization across all Canadian business units coast-to-coast. The role contributes to building consistency in routing practices, performance metrics, and system usage across multiple sites and regions.
This position works at the intersection of operations and systems—leveraging route optimization tools, fleet telematics, and ERP data to support real-time execution while identifying broader network optimization opportunities.
Principle Accountabilities
Key Responsibilities
Key Tasks
Transportation Planning & Route Optimization
- Design, build, and maintain efficient delivery and collection routes using route optimization tools (e.g., Omnitracs / Solera, Roadnet), balancing service levels, cost, and asset utilization
- Continuously refine routing strategies (e.g., resequencing, start time adjustments, territory design) to improve network performance and reduce transportation costs
- Support daily routing execution, including real-time adjustments for add-on orders, unscheduled collections, traffic, weather, and equipment or driver constraints
Fleet Performance & Telematics Analysis
- Monitor real-time fleet performance using telematics platforms (e.g., Samsara, Geotab) to track KPIs such as on-time delivery and collection, idle time, route adherence, and driver behaviour
- Identify trends and performance gaps, and proactively recommend improvements to increase efficiency, utilization, and compliance
Data Analysis & Performance Insights
- Analyze transportation data (mileage, stops, service times, cost metrics) and produce daily, weekly, and monthly reporting
- Develop and track KPIs such as cost per stop, stops per route, route adherence, load factor, and service performance across delivery and collection operations
- Translate data into clear, actionable insights and recommendations for operations leadership across regions
Systems & Integration
- Maintain routing parameters and master data within optimization tools to ensure high-quality outputs
- Work across Daniels’ core systems, ensuring alignment between:
- Route optimization (Omnitracs / Solera)
- Fleet telematics (Samsara, Geotab)
- ERP platforms (RouteOptix, Tegos / Enwis, Business Central)
- Support improvements in data quality, system integration, and visibility across planning and execution layers
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with transportation, site operations, customer service, and planning teams across all Canadian locations to ensure delivery and collection schedules align with customer commitments and operational constraints
- Support onboarding of new customers, service offerings, and network changes through scenario modelling and cost/service impact analysis
Continuous Improvement
- Identify and support continuous improvement initiatives across routing, dispatch, and transportation processes
- Contribute to the development of standardized routing practices and KPI frameworks across regions
- Ensure compliance with transportation regulations and company safety standards, leveraging telematics data where required
What you will do
- Optimize daily delivery and collection operations across Daniels’ Canadian network
- Improve service performance and cost efficiency across multiple regions and sites
- Support the standardization of routing practices, performance metrics, and system usage nationally
- Enhance integration between routing, telematics, and ERP systems (RouteOptix, Tegos / Enwis, Omnitracs, Samsara)
- Provide actionable insights that influence operational decisions and continuous improvement initiatives
- Build capability toward becoming a subject matter expert in transportation optimization within Daniels
- Transportation & Dispatch Teams (across all Canadian sites)
- Operations & Site Leadership
- Customer Service & Planning Teams
- IT / Systems (ERP, telematics, route optimization)
- Route optimization providers (Omnitracs / Solera)
- Telematics providers (Samsara, Geotab)
- Technology and integration partners
- College diploma or bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Logistics, Business, or related field
- 3–5 years of experience in transportation planning, routing, or logistics analytics in a high-volume, multi-stop routing environment
- Hands-on experience with:
- Route optimization platforms (Omnitracs / Solera, Roadnet or similar)
- Fleet telematics systems (Samsara, Geotab or similar)
- ERP systems (RouteOptix, Tegos / Enwis, Business Central or similar)
- Strong analytical capability (Excel, data modelling, performance analysis)
- Solid understanding of routing constraints, time windows, and service-driven delivery and collection operations
- Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally across regions
- Experience in healthcare logistics, waste management, or regulated transport environments
- Exposure to BI tools (e.g., Power BI)
- Familiarity with multi-site or national transportation networks
- Experience supporting route optimization or system implementation initiatives
