If so, Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for an Aircraft Structures Mechanic 1/2. The selected candidate will join our team of qualified, diverse individuals, and will be supporting the B-2 modification team at Whiteman AFB, Mo. This position requires a security clearance, so an active clearance is preferred, but a clearance request will be submitted for the selected candidate if necessary. The nature of this position requires individuals to be comfortable working in a classified environment; cell phones and personal electronic devices are prohibited within these areas.
Job Description:
Your duties and responsibilities include (but not limited to):
Preforms a variety of operations to assemble and make major assembly structures such as fuselage panels and bulkheads, and structural subassemblies such as rudders, flaps, and stabilizers.
Aligning parts on jigs using templates and fixtures.
Performs minor part-fitting operations: filing, sawing, burring, crimping, trimming, framing, riveting, drilling and reaming.
Measures parts with precision tools such as, micrometers and calipers to verify dimensions.
May modify incomplete and complete assemblies to incorporate changes to structure.
May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.
Use of appropriate PPE when working on the shop floor
Translate blueprints into fabrications of structural assemblies to include: precision drilling, countersinking, and the use of calibrated tools
Must obtain and maintain qualifications as directed by supervisor.
The selected candidate must be willing to work various shifts depending on business needs, including, but not limited to: 1st shift 0630 – 1500, 2nd shift 1430 – 2300 and overtime when required.
Basic Qualifications:
Level 1: High School Degree or equivalent and 0 years additional education and/or related experience in manufacturing/production (or similar).
Level 2: High School Degree or equivalent and 2 years additional education and/or related experience in manufacturing/production (or similar).
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs.
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs.
This position requires the ability to perform moderate strenuous physical and repetitious work to include bending, stooping, kneeling, carrying tools, lifting up to 35 pounds, working overhead, and accessing small, confined spaces
Must be able to pass a physical/respiratory evaluation to obtain and maintain necessary respirator clearance and compliance with all respirator fitting requirements
Must be willing to work a flexible work schedule that may include extended shifts, weekends, and occasional holidays to meet schedule or mission requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
Active DOD Secret Clearance with an investigation date/periodic review within the last 6 years.
Hands-on experience with building, modifying, or maintaining aircraft, automotive, or other machines/equipment using common hand tools.
Strong interpersonal communication skills with ability to work with others at all levels of the organization.
Previous composite, manufacturing, or production experience.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Initiative, self-starter, adaptable, and high motivation for excellence.
