This role sits at the core of a fast-scaling transportation and logistics organization, owning the financial integrity of parcel and freight operations. It is a high-impact, player-coach position that bridges accounting, operations, and technology to ensure accurate revenue recognition, cost tracking, and billing across complex transportation flows. The role is deeply embedded in both the monthly close process and the design of systems that generate financial data, making it essential to both financial accuracy and operational scalability. It requires close collaboration with engineering, product, and operations teams to ensure accounting requirements are fully embedded into tools and workflows. Beyond technical accounting ownership, the role also involves building scalable processes, improving data reliability, and enhancing visibility into transportation P&L performance. This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who thrives in detail-oriented execution while driving cross-functional alignment and process improvement.
Accountabilities:
- Own end-to-end accounting for parcel and freight business lines, including revenue recognition, billing accuracy, and compliance with GAAP standards.
- Manage monthly and quarterly close processes for transportation-related revenue, cost accruals, and expense recognition.
- Partner with operations and commercial teams to resolve billing discrepancies, strengthen controls, and improve financial accuracy.
- Lead carrier cost management, freight payables, and variance analysis, providing insights and recommendations to leadership.
- Serve as the finance lead for Transportation Management Systems and related platforms, ensuring accounting requirements are embedded in system design and data outputs.
- Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Data teams on system development, UAT, and ongoing data validation for financial reporting integrity.
- Develop and maintain management reporting and analytics to provide clear visibility into parcel and freight P&L performance.
- Manage and mentor direct reports while fostering a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
- 5–8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory capacity.
- Strong background in transportation, logistics, or freight environments with knowledge of carrier contracts, billing structures, and cost flows.
- Deep understanding of GAAP revenue recognition and accrual accounting principles.
- Hands-on experience with ERP systems such as NetSuite, including account structures, reconciliations, and workflow management.
- Strong data and analytics skills, including experience with SQL and BI tools such as Tableau or Looker.
- Proven experience collaborating with Product and Engineering teams on system design, data pipelines, or finance system implementations.
- Excellent cross-functional communication skills, with the ability to translate complex accounting concepts across technical and operational teams.
- CPA or active CPA candidate preferred, with additional exposure to M&A integration considered a plus.
