Senior Applied AI Engineer
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Applied AI Engineer based in Canada.
This is a high-impact engineering role focused on building and scaling an agentic AI platform that transforms a mature enterprise SaaS system into an AI-native system of intelligence and action. You will work at the intersection of LLM orchestration, distributed systems, and cloud infrastructure, designing production-grade AI workflows used in real-world safety and risk management contexts. The role involves hands-on ownership of backend AI architecture, from stateful agent orchestration to secure, scalable AWS deployments. You will build systems that combine retrieval, reasoning, and automation across large-scale enterprise datasets. This is a deeply technical, developer-first environment where clean architecture and production reliability are essential. You will collaborate closely with product and engineering teams to bring complex AI capabilities into real operational use.
Accountabilities:
In this role, you will be responsible for designing, building, and scaling the core AI platform and its supporting infrastructure, ensuring reliability, security, and performance at enterprise scale.
- Architect and implement agentic AI systems using state machines and orchestration frameworks (e.g., LangGraph/LangChain) to enable autonomous workflows and decision-making loops.
- Design and deploy scalable, serverless AI pipelines on AWS for ingestion, processing, and real-time inference across large datasets.
- Build and optimize RAG systems using vector databases and hybrid search architectures to support high-quality semantic retrieval at scale.
- Develop secure MCP-based integrations to expose legacy systems and APIs as agent-accessible tools with strong access control and isolation.
- Implement LLM routing, observability, and cost-control mechanisms including telemetry, caching, and token usage tracking.
- Design generative UI APIs that dynamically render structured outputs into frontend components for interactive AI-driven experiences.
- Ensure robust security, multi-tenancy isolation, and compliance through encryption, IAM policies, and secure authentication patterns.
- 5+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 2+ years building and deploying production AI features in SaaS platforms.
- Expert-level proficiency in Python, with strong experience in TypeScript/JavaScript preferred.
- Hands-on experience with LLM orchestration frameworks such as LangGraph, LangChain, or equivalent tools.
- Strong AWS expertise (e.g., Lambda, ECS Fargate, S3, SQS, EventBridge, Bedrock, IAM, KMS).
- Proven experience building RAG pipelines, vector search systems, and large-scale document indexing architectures.
- Strong understanding of system design, multi-tenancy, authentication (OAuth2/JWT), and secure cloud architecture.
- Experience with data processing tools such as Pandas, NumPy, and document parsing/OCR pipelines.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in agile, cross-functional engineering teams.
- Nice to have: experience with ML models for anomaly detection, React-based UI systems, MCP ecosystems, or EHS/ESG domains.
- Annual base salary range of CA$144,000–165,000
- Annual bonus opportunity of up to 10%
- Comprehensive healthcare coverage including medical, dental, and vision
- Retirement savings plan with company match and immediate vesting
- Paid time off, holidays, and flexible spending accounts
- Company-funded life insurance and employee assistance programs
- No-cost mental health support benefits
- Inclusive, flexible, and remote-friendly work environment.
