API Developer (Contractor)
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a API Developer (Contractor) based in the United States.
You will join a large-scale financial services transformation initiative focused on modernizing and consolidating legacy portals into a unified, API-driven access management platform. This role is centered on building and integrating APIs that enable secure identity and access management workflows across global systems. You will work in a highly collaborative environment alongside IAM engineers, application teams, and cross-functional stakeholders distributed across multiple regions. The work involves both hands-on API development and integration across complex middleware and cloud ecosystems. This is a contract engagement where your contributions will directly support a critical modernization program with global rollout impact. You will play a key role in improving user and administrator experiences through scalable, secure, and modern API architecture.
Accountabilities:
- Develop and integrate APIs to support identity and access management workflows, including real-time provisioning and user lifecycle processes
- Connect front-end portal components with IAM services and backend systems across a modernized platform architecture
- Deploy, configure, and maintain APIs within gateways and developer portal environments
- Perform data transformation and integration across middleware layers, orchestration tools, and IAM platforms
- Troubleshoot API issues using logs, simulators, and diagnostic tools to ensure system stability and performance
- Collaborate with IAM engineers, application teams, and global stakeholders to deliver consistent integration outcomes
- Support phased rollout activities across multiple regions and time zones
- Contribute to SDLC processes, including automated build, testing, and deployment pipelines
- 3–6 years of experience in API development and system integration
- Strong understanding of REST APIs and API design best practices
- Hands-on experience with API gateways and developer portal deployments
- Familiarity with identity provisioning protocols such as SCIM and LDAP
- Experience working across cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or SaaS platforms
- Proficiency with API testing tools such as Postman, cURL, or similar
- Understanding of SDLC processes and CI/CD or automated deployment workflows
- Ability to collaborate effectively with distributed global teams across time zones
- Experience with IAM platforms such as IBM Security Verify, Ping Identity, or similar is a plus
- Familiarity with APM tools and monitoring practices is an advantage
- Knowledge of secrets management and secure key handling practices is a plus
